Chapter 1123: Each Wife More Beautiful Than the Last
Ultimately, Stella Charlie still went together with Vincent Warner.Despite feeling some anxiety on the way, having Vincent by her side gave her a lot of reassurance.
She knew Vincent wouldn’t let her be wronged, but she worried about making the scene awkward.
"This way." Vincent led Stella up to the second floor of the restaurant, stopping in front of the private room: "Don’t worry, just stay by my side."
"Okay."
As Vincent opened the door, the sound from inside spilled out.
"She’s not just any translator, many international conferences seek her services."
If she hadn’t heard it herself, Stella wouldn’t have believed that this somewhat boastful praise came from Mom Warner.
Upon hearing this, Vincent paused abruptly in his door-opening gesture and gave Stella a smiling glance, the two of them standing at the doorway listening to the conversation inside.
A middle-aged woman said excitedly, "Then when we go abroad next month, can we ask this young lady to be our translator?"
Mom Warner hesitantly declined, saying, "Her work is busy and she might not have time, besides, my son treats her like a treasure, probably wouldn’t be comfortable letting her go with us."
"Haha, it seems being a mom doesn’t compare to being a wife."
"Don’t mention it, as long as he’s willing to live happily, having a grandson for me sooner is worth more than anything."
Stella felt it was improper to eavesdrop outside, so she tugged slightly on Vincent’s hand.
Vincent looked down at her, chuckled, and said, "Seems like we were worried for nothing."
It was indeed the first time Stella heard Mom Warner’s evaluation of her, uncertain if it was to save face in front of her friends or a genuine feeling.
But as long as Mom Warner wasn’t opposing her and Vincent like before, trying everything to get her away from Vincent, it was fine.
Vincent pushed open the door, leading Stella inside: "Mom."
When Mom Warner saw them coming, she restrained her earlier emotion a bit for demeanor’s sake: "We were just waiting for you two."
Stella tried to make conversation, apologetically smiling: "Got delayed with work at the company for a bit, sorry."
Mom Warner: "Why are you just standing there? Planning to eat standing up?"
Vincent, wrapping an arm around Stella, thoughtfully pulled out a chair for her, waiting for her to sit before taking his seat beside her.
At the table were Mom Warner’s same-age friends, all with curious and gossiping gazes sizing up Vincent and Stella.
"Haven’t seen Vincent in quite a while, he’s getting more handsome."
Vincent smiled, "Auntie, you flatter me. Let me introduce everyone, this is Stella Charlie, my wife, you can call her Stella."
Facing the elders, Stella was still somewhat awkward and restrained, politely greeting, "Hello aunties."
"Vincent sure is lucky, each wife prettier than the last."
The casual remark made everyone present feel awkward.
The person who spoke also realized the mistake and quickly laughed to change the subject: "Just now, Big Sister was praising you, saying you’re like a fairy descended to earth. We didn’t quite believe it, but seeing you now, it really feels true."
Stella just chuckled dryly, while Mom Warner, seemingly worried Stella might take offense, quickly urged everyone to eat and shifted the topic.
Although the meal was somewhat awkward, fortunately it didn’t include the deliberate difficulties she imagined.
It seems Mom Warner merely wanted her to come for a meal and introduce her to the friends.
This counts as a form of acknowledgment, doesn’t it?
