I, Gary, Want to Become a Pokemon Master

Chapter 683 - 683: The Final, Electivire vs. Suicune

Chapter 683 - 683: The Final, Electivire vs. Suicune

"What a powerful Rhyperior! It actually defeated Landorus!"The commentator could hardly believe what he had just seen. Rhyperior's performance was simply too fierce. Even with Landorus restricted by Gravity, taking down a Legendary Pokémon through sheer brute force was incredible.

But why did Landorus fare so poorly? It had used Earthquake and Arm Hammer—two moves that were super effective against a Rock and Ground-type like Rhyperior. Yet, the damage hadn't seemed nearly as devastating as it should have been.

The answer lay in Rhyperior's Solid Rock ability. Its hardened rocky exterior effectively reduced any super-effective damage it took. A move that would normally hit for double damage was weakened significantly. Combine that with Rhyperior's naturally massive physical defense, and Landorus's attacks, while certainly painful, simply weren't enough to bring the armored giant down.

"Landorus, return and rest," Tobias said, recalling his fainted Pokémon. He immediately took out his next Poké Ball and threw it. "Suicune, go!"

The elegant, ribbon-tailed beast returned to the field.

"Hydro Pump!"

"Dig!"

Both Trainers issued their commands simultaneously.

Before the heavy blast of water could reach it, Rhyperior rapidly burrowed into the earth. Gary wasn't worried in the slightest. Normally, a fast Pokémon like Suicune could easily jump to avoid an underground attack, but with Magnezone's Gravity still active on the field, jumping was out of the question.

Tobias quickly realized this as well. "Suicune, use Blizzard on the ground!"

Suicune exhaled a fierce, freezing storm, aiming it directly at the battlefield. Because the ground was still soaked from the earlier Rain Dance and the residual Water Pulse, the Blizzard instantly froze the moisture, creating a thick layer of ice over the arena.

Is he trying to slow Rhyperior down when it comes up? Gary guessed.

Adding a layer of ice to the ground was a solid tactic to prevent a Pokémon from emerging easily, but its effectiveness had limits. Rhyperior's horn was a literal drill.

Bang!

The ground fractured, and the thick ice layer shattered instantly. It offered absolutely no resistance as Rhyperior burst from beneath the surface and slammed a heavy Tackle directly into Suicune. Weighed down by Gravity, Suicune couldn't be knocked into the air; instead, it was dragged backward across the broken ice alongside the charging Rhyperior.

"Thunder Punch!" Gary ordered.

"Roar!"

Rhyperior's massive fist became cloaked in golden lightning.

"Suicune, Sheer Cold!" Tobias shouted.

Gary's eyes widened. "What?!"

For the first time in the match, he was genuinely shocked. He hadn't expected Tobias's Suicune to know a lethal, one-hit knockout move like Sheer Cold.

A blast of absolute zero air erupted from Suicune, striking Rhyperior point-blank. The terrifyingly low temperature swept over the Rock-type, but Rhyperior grit its teeth, withstood the freezing impact, and brought its Thunder Punch crashing down onto Suicune.

"Arooo...!"

Suicune howled in pain as the super-effective punch sent it sliding several meters away.

At the same time, a thick layer of frost formed across Rhyperior's abdomen. The sheer chilling force of the attack had dealt massive damage. Even though it hadn't triggered an instant knockout, the raw cold was too much for Rhyperior to shrug off.

Gary assessed Rhyperior's condition. He had originally wanted Rhyperior to take down three of Tobias's Pokémon in a row, but he hadn't anticipated Suicune having Sheer Cold. Taking that kind of damage meant Rhyperior was running on empty.

Gary wanted a flawless victory. He still had fresh Pokémon waiting in the wings, and there was no need to risk a faint now.

"Rhyperior, come back and rest."

He held up the Poké Ball and safely recalled the heavy Pokémon.

"Gary has recalled Rhyperior," the commentator noted. "I wonder who he'll send out to face Suicune next?"

"Electivire, get ready for battle." Gary tossed his next Poké Ball casually.

[Lv. 63 Electivire / Champion-tier]

"Wow! Electivire makes its debut!" the commentator shouted. "Gary's fifth Pokémon is an Electric-type, holding a clear type advantage over Suicune. It looks like Gary is determined to close this out cleanly!"

In the stands, the gamblers were practically vibrating with joy.

"Yes! A perfect sweep is happening!"

"That's right! Play it safe, Gary!"

Seeing Gary prioritize a zero-loss record over showing off, the bettors were grinning from ear to ear. Their money was looking safer by the second.

"Suicune, use Hydro Pump!" Tobias ordered, refusing to go down without a fight.

Suicune immediately fired a massive column of high-pressure water.

"Thunder! Let's trade blows!" Gary commanded.

He didn't care about Electivire taking a hit. Suicune had already suffered a tremendous amount of damage from Rhyperior. If they traded attacks now, Suicune would definitely fall first.

Electivire roared, firing a surge of electricity into the sky. A heartbeat later, a massive lightning bolt crashed down directly over Suicune's position.

Bang!!

The Hydro Pump slammed heavily into Electivire.

"Arooo!"

Almost simultaneously, the Thunder struck Suicune, causing the beast to let out a pained growl.

"Both attacks hit their mark!" the commentator announced. "But Electivire easily tanked the damage from Hydro Pump, while Suicune's condition is looking extremely bad!"

Seeing Suicune struggling to stay upright, Gary snapped his fingers. "Finish it. Wild Charge!"

Electivire let out a battle cry. Intense electric currents rushed out of its body, crackling loudly as they formed a volatile cloak of lightning. Without a second's hesitation, it charged forward at blinding speed.

Tobias hesitated. He briefly considered switching, but remembering that Raikou had been put to sleep by Dark Void, he decided against it. He had to fight to the bitter end here.

"Use Extreme Speed!" Tobias commanded.

"Arooo!"

Suicune rushed forward, wrapping its body in a white cyclone born from the power of the north wind.

Boom!!

The two Pokémon collided head-on. The electricity surrounding Electivire flared wildly, tearing straight through Suicune's wind barrier and invading its body. A violent explosion engulfed them both, blowing them backward across the field.

"The Gravity just disappeared," Gary muttered, noticing the sudden shift in the air. Magnezone's field effect had finally run its course.

He looked over at Suicune. The Legendary beast trembled as it tried to push itself up from the ground. It managed to hold on for a few agonizing seconds before its legs gave out. It collapsed onto its side, eyes closed tightly. It couldn't get back up.

"Suicune is unable to battle! Electivire wins!" the referee announced.

Tobias's fifth Pokémon had fallen.

Up in the stands, the crowd was ecstatic.

"Good fight! Tobias only has Raikou left, and it's asleep. Gary's got this in the bag!"

"Exactly! And don't forget, Electivire has the Motor Drive ability. Raikou's Electric-type moves can't even hurt it!"

"Hahaha! Gary is the absolute GOAT!"

With Suicune defeated, Tobias had virtually no path to victory left, especially since his final Pokémon was still suffering from a major status condition.

"I never expected to be completely swept," Tobias said, a bitter smile touching his lips. "But I won't give up until the very last moment."

He pulled out his final Poké Ball.

"Raikou, return to the field!"

Tobias didn't yield. He sent his last Legendary beast out for its final stand.

"Roar---!"

Raikou materialized on the battlefield. It had finally woken up from Darkrai's Dark Void, and although its roar echoed powerfully across the stadium, it was visibly exhausted, its condition making the task ahead incredibly difficult.
