Chapter 87 Helena, what are you still doing here?
"What did you see on the corpses?" Charlotte asked after confirming that they had disappeared.
"That wound was left by the witch's ability to transform."
"Form change?" Charlotte pondered for a moment. "What's that?"
"A very special ability," Li Ang explained. "I've encountered it twice. Once it was the ability to make one's body grow larger or smaller, and then this one, the ability to turn a part of one's body into a weapon."
"I see." Charlotte nodded, showing no surprise.
The main reason is that they've all been drawn into this game, so it's not surprising that witches possess some strange abilities.
"I'm thinking..." Li Ang wanted to say something, but then he shut his mouth.
"What are you thinking about?" Charlotte asked, looking at him with a puzzled expression.
"It's nothing. I was overthinking it. Let's go. It's time to go back." After saying that, Li Ang didn't wait for Charlotte's reply and took the lead in walking away.
He suddenly realized that since the witch possessed the ability to change form, and given that she had been lurking among them from the beginning, was it possible that she had disguised herself as someone else at night to approach Bridget?
If that's the case, it might explain why Bridget looked so incredulous before she died.
But if that's the case, the scope will be even wider, and even Charlotte, who is right beside him, is at risk of being replaced.
That's why Lord didn't say it directly.
When everyone returned to the restaurant, breakfast had already been taken away.
Eloi sat at the head of the round table, a seat reserved for her by the others. For some reason, in everyone's mind, she was like the presiding judge in a courtroom, and rightfully deserved to sit in the head seat.
This is true even in a game where even memories are reset.
Faibel sat to her right, her fingers unconsciously circling on the table.
Elena's golden twin ponytails hung down her chest. In front of her was a freshly poured cup of black tea, which she did not drink, but simply watched as Li Ang and Charlotte walked in together.
Emily and Lilith sat together, their chairs very close together, seemingly because they had talked during dinner the night before, which had brought them closer.
Caltacia crossed his arms, leaned back in his chair, and waited expressionlessly.
When Li Ang and Charlotte walked in, everyone's eyes turned to them at the same time.
"Bridget's body has been disposed of." Leon sat down opposite Eloi. "We've found some clues, but none of them are enough to directly point to the killer."
He described in detail the time of death, cause of death, type of weapon, and residual energy at the edge of the wound.
"So the witch's abilities are related to 'shape transformation'?" Eloi's voice came from the other end. "The weapon is formed from a part of the body. This matches the witch's abilities as recorded in the association's records."
She gently touched her forehead. "Although I don't remember how I came to those ideas, my memory tells me that they are correct."
"The most important question now is why Bridget didn't struggle?" Faybel asked pointedly.
"A person who can prevent her from even triggering her instincts is either someone she completely trusts, or someone she never expected to be the murderer."
"So that witch must be someone she trusts implicitly." Aloy subconsciously pushed up her glasses. "Or rather, someone she considers trustworthy."
Isabel snorted, pulled her chair forward a few inches, and placed her hands on the table. "Trusted people? Among us, who does Bridget trust? She trusts herself. She trusts no one."
"She trusts Leon," Faibel's voice drifted over again, "otherwise she wouldn't have agreed to his plan."
“But I don’t think there’s any connection between the two,” Leon said. “Bridget trusted me because my plan was right, not because of me as a person.”
"Heh! The plan was right? And on the very first night, we lost our only person with the ability to protect us?" Isabel mocked without any attempt to hide her sarcasm.
"Yes. I'm very sorry about that. So when you die the next day, I will mourn for you." Li Ang looked at her very seriously. "Of course, it would be even better if you could write down the murderer's name before you die."
"Pfft!" Sherry couldn't help but cover her mouth and laugh. This earned her a glare from Isabel, but fortunately, she didn't seem to care much.
At this moment, everyone could see that the other party had a lot of opinions about Li Ang, and would often criticize him, while the latter did not tolerate her.
"The witch isn't Leon." Eloi tapped her fingers lightly on the table, stopping the argument. "Leon hasn't left the cell; Boudica verified that. Ruled out."
"Who else could that witch be?" Sherry raised her hand, her blue ahoge sticking up high, her golden eyes full of seriousness.
"You've been suspecting Charlotte the whole time, but now that Leon is cleared, isn't Charlotte the most suspicious person now?"
Charlotte picked up the cup of black tea in front of her, took a sip, and set it down, the bottom of the cup tapping softly on the table. "I said I would prove my innocence through my speech during the formal proceedings."
"Then let's wait for the jailer to return and proceed with the discussion according to procedure."
After Aloy finished speaking, everyone at the round table fell silent.
Before long, a sticky, wriggling sound came from outside the restaurant, getting closer and closer.
The jailer pushed open the door and appeared before everyone.
"The first formal discussion session is about to begin. The discussion will last one hour. After the discussion, a decision will be made on whether to proceed with the vote."
"What if we choose no?" Caltacia asked.
"The second round of discussions will take place this afternoon. It will also last one hour. After the second round of discussions, a vote will be mandatory."
"Voters may choose to abstain from voting. Those who abstain will not be counted in the total vote count."
"What happens after the discussion?" Li Ang asked.
"This is free time. Dinner will begin at 7 p.m. and last for one hour. Please be on time."
"So, who's in charge of our voting process?" Li Ang asked immediately afterward.
"I'm only responsible for ensuring the rules are running smoothly. The person in charge of the actual voting process is the counter; she'll be here soon."
After saying this, the jailer left.
The restaurant fell silent again until footsteps sounded outside the door. Everyone turned to look in the direction from which the footsteps were coming.
As the door was pushed open again, a blonde girl appeared before everyone.
Li Ang recognized the girl; she was Helena.
Helena paused for a moment when she saw Li Ang, but quickly recovered and walked to the front of the group, trying her best not to look at Li Ang.
"Hello everyone. I am the vote counter for the voting process, responsible for controlling everyone's speaking time and counting everyone's votes."
"Helena," Li Ang called out her name directly, "Why are you still here?"
