Chapter 15: Manners - Pay Attention to Your Manners
Huang Yiliang quickly flipped through the script, and it really was "Crazy Stone".
He hadn't read the script for "Crazy Stone," but he had seen the movie!
Now, comparing it to the script, I'm disappointed, very disappointed.
Compared to the brilliance of the movie, the script in his hand was a pile of shit, and a very rough pile of shit at that.
Ning Hao was somewhat disappointed when he saw how fast Huang Yiliang was flipping through the script. This guy wasn't really reading the script; he was probably just putting on an act in front of the massage girl.
Huang Bo and Yue Xiaojun were also somewhat disappointed.
But tonight's arrangements were definitely worth it.
Regardless of whether the investment goes through or not, this rich second-generation is worth befriending.
These three guys couldn't possibly understand that with Huang Yiliang's immense mental strength, he could read scripts so quickly.
"Who wrote this script?" Huang Yiliang closed the script and looked at Ning Hao.
"The story of the script was written by another colleague, but Xiaojun and I were responsible for the overall framework and narrative style."
After finishing his sentence, Ning Hao didn't forget to ask, "Brother Liang, what do you think of this script?"
Huang Bo and Yue Xiaojun also looked at Huang Yiliang.
"Not good? It's terrible." Huang Yiliang threw the script back to Ning Hao.
Ning Hao's eyes widened, clearly unconvinced.
You young rich kid, what do you know about creative writing? My script is the best in the world.
There was also a hint of dissatisfaction on Yue Xiaojun's face.
"Not convinced? You've certainly sought out plenty of investors!" Huang Yiliang sneered.
Ning Hao and Yue Xiaojun remained silent.
"What did the other investors say?" Huang Yiliang asked curiously.
"Great! Everyone who read the script thinks it's good and creative," Ning Hao said, sticking out his neck.
Huang Yiliang was amused.
"Creative? Is it because of Guy Ritchie?"
Ning Hao and Yue Xiaojun exchanged a glance.
Holy crap! I've met an expert.
"You've disrupted a story and are using multiple narrative threads running concurrently; isn't that just borrowing Guy Ritchie's narrative style?"
Huang Yiliang's words made Ning Hao and Yue Xiaojun's expressions somewhat unpleasant. However, Huang Yiliang's words were not the worst. Others who recognized Guy Ritchie's style directly accused them of plagiarism.
"The protagonist of your story is a 35-year-old middle-aged man who has accomplished nothing, and the female lead is practically nonexistent."
"Tell me, in today's film market, with no handsome men and beautiful women, what kind of stupid audience members would buy tickets for this kind of movie?"
Ning Hao was about to retort.
Huang Yiliang waved his hand: "You don't even need to ask anyone else. Just ask the young ladies here: would you be interested in the story of a middle-aged man who's failed miserably?"
The five massage girls all shook their heads.
Putting aside the fact that they are not really interested in the stories of middle-aged men, the key point is that anyone who is not blind knows that Huang Yiliang is the boss, so of course they have to flatter the boss!
"Our story also has humor, satire of reality, and—"
Ning Hao was interrupted by Huang Yiliang before he could finish speaking: "This is a comedy. Isn't being funny a basic requirement? You're even being sarcastic. Look at any satirical comedy, none of them end well."
"So, you're not going to vote?"
Ning Hao is still too inexperienced. He asked for the result directly, and Yue Xiaojun tried his best to stop him with his eyes.
Damn it! At least let the beautiful ladies finish ringing this clock!
"I only have one question for you: how many minutes do you plan to make this movie?" Huang Yiliang asked.
"Of course, it's ninety to one hundred minutes," Ning Hao said matter-of-factly.
"But looking at your script, it would take more than two hundred minutes to film," Huang Yiliang said with an unfriendly expression.
"No, it's just a script. Besides, it can be edited out after filming!" Ning Hao said anxiously.
What movie doesn't cut out some bad footage? I hope this is why he refused to participate! He just gave himself a good dressing down.
Huang Yiliang chuckled.
"You'll pay for the footage we shoot and the editing!"
When Huang Yiliang was reading the script, he discovered that many of the plot points were not in the movie.
For example, the love line between the male lead Bao Shihong and his wife is a complete love line in the script. How much would it cost to film the whole thing?
And then there's that hitman Mike. The script includes scenes of him being incredibly professional and awesome as a hitman abroad, as well as various car crash scenes where he calmly handles crises. All of that costs a fortune.
Since it wasn't included in the final cut, there was no need to film it at all.
Huang Yiliang noticed that Ning Hao and Yue Xiaojun remained silent.
He said with a serious expression, "Let's switch roles. If you were the investors, would you invest in a movie that wastes money?"
"This isn't a waste of money! Everyone does it this way. If we don't film it, how will we know which part is better?" Ning Hao muttered to himself.
"I don't care. I'm not stupid and rich. This script has to be streamlined and kept under 100 minutes."
Huang Yiliang lay down and let the young girl massage his feet. To be honest, this girl, who charged 300 yuan an hour, was quite skilled; she wasn't just a pretty face.
"So, we still have a chance?" Yue Xiaojun's eyes lit up.
Huang Yiliang nodded.
"Although your story is just average, I really like this multi-narrative style; it's particularly interesting."
"However, we must also be wary that young people today may not be able to accept this kind of narrative that does not follow the normal order. You are all in the film industry, you should know that things that are too ahead of their time may not necessarily have a good outcome. 'A Chinese Odyssey' is a cautionary tale."
Ning Hao and Yue Xiaojun felt a chill run down their spines.
They hadn't really thought about this issue. Now that they think about it, this might be one of the reasons why other investors rejected their scripts.
"So what do you think we should do?"
Unbeknownst to Yue Xiaojun, he had elevated Huang Yiliang to the same level of professional screenwriting as them.
"I think we can work on the editing. It must be clean and crisp, and the pace must be fast, so that the audience's eyes are not distracted."
Ning Hao and Yue Xiaojun are both excellent filmmakers, and they immediately understood what Huang Yiliang meant.
Holy crap! This rich kid is really something.
"Also, continue to polish the script, especially the dialogue."
"Xie Xiaomeng's statement, 'Whenever I look at this city from this angle, I feel strongly that the city is the mother and we are living in her womb,' is full of sophistication."
"And then there's this line: 'I specialized in nude art in Hong Kong, but I was forced into becoming a tabloid reporter. Isn't that like forcing a good person into prostitution?'"
"It not only insulted my character, but also my intelligence."
"Manners, watch your manners."
"These are all excellent lines."
After Huang Yiliang finished speaking, Ning Hao and Yue Xiaojun stared at him blankly.
"No, you really read the whole script and memorized all the lines."
If it weren't for the pretty girls watching, they would have really wanted to kneel down and kowtow to Huang Yiliang.
We're all pretty much the same kind of handsome guys, so why are you so outstanding?
