Chapter 208 - 205: Who Still Lives at Their Maiden Home After Getting Married?
Seth Quinn’s eyes glinted for a moment, then grew calm again. He spoke naturally, "Cherie is still in the recovery phase, so he’s bound to sleep a lot more. It’s perfectly normal for him to fall asleep from time to time.
"If you go see him now, he’ll get all excited. Then if he can’t sleep tonight, it’ll just disrupt his rest, which isn’t good for his recovery.
"Let’s go tomorrow. It’ll make no difference. I’ll take you first thing in the morning, all right?"
His voice was soft, as if he were soothing her disappointment.
’But he knew perfectly well that he hadn’t had time to get things ready. How could he possibly let her go over there?’
’Actually, Seth Quinn thought Rowan Linden was right. Maybe he really should tell her the truth sooner—that Cherie didn’t have a congenital heart defect, and that he wasn’t some poor kid abandoned by his parents.’
’But he really couldn’t be sure how she would react when she found out the truth. He was suddenly afraid—afraid that once she knew, she’d get angry and leave him.’
’She had finally started to let her guard down around him. Her attitude toward him had gotten better, and their interactions were much more peaceful—at this point, they were even getting a little intimate.’
’He loved her current attitude toward him and was thoroughly enjoying their dynamic.’
’So, he’d just wait a bit longer. He’d tell her when she was more reliant on him, when their relationship was on more solid ground.’
’Thinking about his current insecurity, he couldn’t help but remember what he’d said to Rowan Linden—"By then, she’ll already be my wife. So what if she hates me? And so what if she doesn’t? I don’t care!"’
’He’d said it all so nonchalantly back then. Talk about eating his words now!’
Though Clara Grant was disappointed, she had to admit he had a point. She nodded. "All right, let’s go tomorrow then."
With that said, she glanced at the wall clock again, then turned to him. "It’s getting late, so I should get going. Should we meet at the hospital tomorrow morning, or...?"
Seth Quinn frowned, not answering her question but posing one of his own. "Go? Where are you going?"
"Home, of course." ’Where else would I be going?’
"Which home?"
"...My own home, of course."
Seth Quinn turned and gestured around the room. "From now on, this place and the Quinn Family estate are your home. What you call your ’home’ is just your parents’ place."
"...Then I’ll go to my parents’ place." She didn’t want to argue with him; she knew she couldn’t win anyway. ’But surely I can go back to my parents’ house, right?’
"Who goes back to live with their parents after getting married?" Seth Quinn said, taking a step forward.
Clara Grant quickly took a step back. ’He can’t possibly mean... that I’m supposed to stay here with him tonight, can he?’
The thought had barely formed before the words tumbled out of her mouth. "Are we... staying here tonight?"
"Hmm. If you want to go back to the Quinn estate, that’s an option too."
Clara Grant pouted. "I don’t want to. I just want to go home. I miss my mom."
Seth Quinn tried to reason with her, appealing to both her heart and her head. "I know, but you can’t just suddenly go back home with no luggage. Mom’s health has never been great—what if she thinks something happened to you?
"Even if she isn’t worried that something’s wrong, if I take you home in the middle of the night, aren’t you afraid she’ll figure out what’s going on with us?"
Hearing him say "Mom" instead of "your mom," a strange feeling slowly welled up in Clara Grant’s heart.
’But what "middle of the night"? It’s not even dark out yet!’
Clara Grant wanted to retort, but then she realized he actually had a point. She had run back halfway through filming without even bringing her suitcase. Her mother was always sensitive and prone to overthinking; it wouldn’t be good to make her worry and affect her health.
’But am I being swayed too easily? Why does everything he says sound so reasonable?’
Clara Grant opened her mouth, just about to speak, when a cell phone rang. It was hers.
