Chapter 116 Foolish and Cruel
Chapter 116 Foolish and Cruel
"It's ridiculous that anyone would look down on their own daughter," Ren Kecheng said with extreme sarcasm, her heart aching terribly. But she had always been like this; when she was in pain, she wanted others to suffer as well; when she was in agony, she wanted others to be in even greater pain.
"Utterly foolish!" Ren Kecheng's mother gaped, never expecting to hear such words from her daughter. After a moment, she pointed at her and said, "You actually suspect your own father and mother, preferring to believe outsiders rather than trust your own family. It's utterly absurd."
Ren Kecheng's mother trembled with anger, her vision blurred, and she was about to collapse when Ren Kecheng's father, Ren Qing, who rushed over, caught her.
"Ke Cheng! How could you make your mother so angry!" Ren Qing had some business to attend to and had just entered the palace, so he naturally didn't catch what happened. He only came here because he heard from the servants that the madam and young lady were not at the ball.
"Father probably doesn't know what happened yet." Ren Kecheng didn't show much respect to her father. She looked at Ren Qing and said, "Let Mother tell you what happened, so you won't be accused of exaggerating or distorting the truth." After saying that, she walked straight towards the door.
"Stop right there!" Before Ren Qing could speak, Ren Kecheng's mother struggled to stand up straight from her husband's arms. "Where did Newt go? Why wasn't he by your side?"
Newt Yulia. Ren Kecheng's husband.
"How would I know?" Ren Kecheng scoffed, thinking of her husband's ordinary face. "He idles away his days. Who knows where he wandered off to at the banquet? Do you expect me to keep an eye on him the whole time?"
"Your marriage is unbreakable. He is your husband now. How long will you continue to live like this, all for show? In such a big situation, he wasn't by your side or offering you proper advice?"
Although Newt is from a distant branch of the royal family, he grew up among royal children. Moreover, he has a twin brother who has always served in the imperial government. How could someone who has grown up in the vortex of power not see through such a shallow and despicable game?
Either his daughter acted unilaterally without informing him, or he knew but remained uninvolved, watching his wife's predicament unfold. If it's the latter, that would be terrifying.
“I’ve told you before that you need to be nicer to Newt. Stop showing your capricious attitude all the time. He’s royalty, we’re the ones who are lucky to be associated with him. It’s not your place to be picky.” Ren Qing had obviously thought of something and said with a frown.
"Come on. It's not me who's climbing the social ladder, it's you! Didn't you force me to choose him? What, are you going to interfere after the marriage? How my husband and I get along is none of your business. If you want to fawn over a low-ranking royal family, then go ahead and do it yourselves." Ren Kecheng finished speaking, rolled her eyes, and walked out without looking back.
She and Newt had long since grown to dislike each other, and maintaining a semblance of mutual benefit was already a feat. She never hid her pursuit of Kong Yiche from him, and he didn't care at all. As long as she didn't go too far, he always turned a blind eye.
Ren Qing and his wife were left filled with anger and worry. Ren Qing shoved the shelf next to them, which held an expensive vase. The vase shattered into pieces, and the fresh flowers inside were mixed with dirt and fell to the ground in a sorry state.
Just moments ago, these were priceless tribute flowers, but now they lie fallen to the ground, mixed with mud, scattered and filthy.
Ren Kecheng's mother clutched her chest, regretting that she hadn't strictly disciplined her daughter's character. Now, her daughter couldn't even distinguish right from wrong, and she didn't know what kind of trouble she would cause in the future.
No wonder Kong Yiche looked down on her no matter what, since even her husband Newt was unwilling to help her.
Ren Kecheng's mother felt increasingly pained as she thought about it, and she fainted again.
Ren Kecheng paid no attention to her parents' war-torn life. As soon as she stepped out of the palace, she summoned her servants and asked, "Where did Commander Kong go?"
The attendant replied that Kong Yiche had just left directly with the emperor and was probably no longer at the ball; he had gone to another palace where the emperor met with his foreign officials.
She nearly ground her teeth to powder after hearing this, knowing that Kong Yiche must have gone to speak well of Jiang Yu. She wondered what kind of magic that woman possessed that made him so devoted to her, even after being labeled as morally corrupt, she could still make him do his best for her.
Damn it.
However, she quickly curled her lips into a smile. Lady Tini was resourceful and had already planned her next move. That fool Jiang Yu had stumbled upon Lady Tini's good deed and glimpsed the secrets of the empire. Now that he was about to die, she could be smug for a couple more days.
She went to a secluded spot, summoned her personal servant, and looked at the servant, whose face was so ordinary that he was easily forgotten, without any emotion, and asked, "Lady Tiny has another trump card. Have you found out what that final secret is?"
"No," the servant replied, bowing deeply. His already short body almost blended into the night.
"Useless trash, what good are you? You're utterly useless!" Ren Kecheng didn't get the answer she wanted, her eyebrows raised high. "What, whose orders did you take? Did you not follow my orders properly at all?"
“That’s not the case,” the servant said, bowing his head even lower. “Compared to the royal servants, my abilities are limited. I have only you as my master, and I will only obey your orders.” The servant said respectfully.
"Oh, really?" Ren Kecheng had been in a bad mood all night. Looking at this extremely lowly and shameful servant in front of her, she seemed to have found an outlet for her anger and instead leisurely crossed her arms.
"Are you feeling cold? Please allow me to...."
"Insolence!" Before the servant could finish speaking, Ren Kecheng interrupted him with a sharp shout, "Who allowed you to raise your head, you lowly bastard? How dare you raise your head in front of me?"
"Don't you want your eyes anymore? It's a disgrace for someone like you to even see my dress. You dare to even look up at my face? You should gouge your eyes out and atone for your sins with your death!"
Looking at the servant in front of him, who was as stiff as a stone, Ren Kecheng smiled with satisfaction: "Didn't I say you only obey my orders? What's wrong? Why don't you move when I tell you to gouge out your eyes?"
"..." The servant paused, "Everything is as you wish." He then raised his hand, and a sharp dagger instantly appeared in his hand, about to gouge out his own eyes.
"Alright, you still have to do things for me. You can't lose your eyes. As far as I know, you're not some race with regenerative abilities, are you?" Ren Kecheng said maliciously. "Since eyes can't be used to atone for sins, then use your fingers."
“Losing one finger shouldn’t matter much, after all, some people’s servants are born with four fingers.” Ren Kecheng looked at him. “I’m in a bad mood today, you know what to do.”
"Take it to feed the fish."
After saying that, she turned and walked towards the ball. Her flowing golden skirt shone brightly even in the darkness, but its owner did not have a heart made of gold.
A cold glint flashed in the darkness, and apart from a few drops of blood, no trace of anyone had vanished, as if the place had never existed.
