Chapter 247 Lu Shuang's Visit 1
Chapter 247 Lu Shuang's Visit 1
Time flies when you're focused on something. In the midst of the busy preparations, half a month passed in the blink of an eye.
Jiang Yu was somewhat surprised when she saw the calendar in the morning, feeling that the passage of time was not necessarily constant. Sometimes it felt like it was moving slowly and unhurriedly, and other times it was like a playful wave that she couldn't grasp.
Lin Yi had taken too long a vacation before, so he wouldn't have any more family visit leave for a while. The stingy Emperor canceled several of his vacations at once, and Jiang Yu even complained about it to Fan Qingyin behind his back.
She was having breakfast at the moment. Qingyin had gone to the shrine early in the morning, so only she and Moya were sitting at the table.
While eating, he suddenly remembered the letter he had received from Lu Shuang a few days ago. He carefully recalled the date on the letter and immediately jumped up from his chair.
"What's wrong, Jiang Jiang?" Moya stared wide-eyed at Jiang Yu in surprise, her mouth still stuffed with a large piece of sausage, her face looking bewildered and adorable.
"Shuangshuang and Lanyu are coming today! Oh my god, how could I forget about this!" Jiang Yu tapped her head, somewhat annoyed, but thankfully she had already given instructions to arrange the guest rooms and such when she received the letter.
"Oh, that new friend you met in the royal city." Jiang Yu had told Moya about her encounter with Lu Shuang and Lan Yu before, so Moya knew very well.
"Well, they'll probably arrive around noon or afternoon, Jiang Jiang. Don't be nervous, we've prepared everything we need to!" Moya reassured Jiang Yu nonchalantly, then reached for the bread covered with a thick slice of cheese.
"Sit down and have breakfast first!" Moya took a big bite of bread, the salty and fragrant cheese making him squint his eyes in satisfaction.
“Back when we were still in the Aurora Empire, Qingyin sent someone to deliver the antidote my sister gave me to Shuangshuang. I guess we’ll be able to see Lanyu stand up again this time,” Jiang Yu sighed.
"It should be. They came here almost without stopping. I heard that Lord Lu Shuang's territory is not close to here."
“They probably left after delivering their visiting cards.” Jiang Yu waved her hand, and immediately a servant stepped forward, bowing and waiting for her instructions.
"Go tell Lady Ador to prepare a banquet immediately, one that combines the characteristics of both the Ocean Empire and the Aurora Empire. Also, have the chefs from the Aurora Empire prepare some of their signature dishes."
She thought for a moment and said, “Invite several prominent ladies from the county, each with one of their husbands, to the banquet. Tell them that my friend is visiting from her territory and needs their company.”
"Yes, lord." The servant bowed and withdrew to find Ador.
"Oh my god, Xiaoyu, it's so good to see you're alright!" Lu Shuang had just poked her head out of the griffin carriage and rushed over enthusiastically the moment she saw Jiang Yu, completely ignoring Lan Yu's awkward hand still raised in mid-air to catch her.
Jiang Yu was slightly knocked back by her smooth and fluid movements. After regaining her balance while holding Lu Shuang, she smiled and said, "Welcome, Shuangshuang, and welcome, Lan Yu too."
Lu Shuang wore a dress with a combination of light yellow and white, paired with fitted white riding trousers instead of a skirt. Her tall boots were embroidered with forsythia flowers on yellow ribbons, making her look both cool and cute.
Lan Yu was dressed in a cool orange riding outfit, with a scarf in the same pale yellow as Lu Shuang's. The two looked very well-matched.
"Shuangshuang, let go of Lord Jiang Yu! What kind of behavior is this? If Mother finds out, she'll scold you again." Lan Yu was a little embarrassed and quickly stopped Lu Shuang as she snuggled against Jiang Yu like a kitten.
"Hmph, if Mother finds out, it'll be because you told on me." Lu Shuang rolled her eyes at him. Lan Yu was good at winning over Mother's heart, always complaining about him to her. Now he even dared to try to discipline her on Mother's behalf.
“I haven’t seen Xiaoyu in so long. Others may not know what happened, but I can guess a little. Now that I see her standing here safe and sound, what’s wrong with me hugging my friend?” Lu Shuang retorted to Lan Yu.
"But you, having finally escaped the ranks of the paralyzed, how come you've awakened this annoying talent of being a nagging old woman?"
Lu Shuang is still the same—straightforward and outspoken, never holding back her words. But those who know her well know that she has no ill intentions.
So Lan Yu just smiled awkwardly and quickly greeted Jiang Yu and Mo Ya.
Neither of them had ever met Moya before, nor had anyone specifically told them anything about her, so Lu Shuang's eyes widened in disbelief, clearly stunned by Moya's stunning beauty.
But she quickly realized that this gentleman clearly had a close relationship with Lord Jiang Yu, and that she had been very impolite. So she asked apologetically, "Little Yu, who is this gentleman?"
"This is Moya, from the Aurora Empire, the young master of the God-Serving Tribe. He is my next partner. I have already introduced you to him." Jiang Yu affectionately took Moya's arm and introduced him to her friends and their spouse.
"Ah, I only knew you encountered some difficulties, but I really didn't know the specifics. It turns out you also had a serendipitous encounter on your journey." Lu Shuang's words were extremely eloquent, and Moya was clearly pleased.
“Moya saved me.” Jiang Yu didn’t want to say more. “Qingyin has work today. She’ll come back from the shrine this afternoon to have dinner with us. You must be tired from your long journey. Come in and rest.”
Jiang Yu gave Lu Shuang and Lan Yu a brief tour of the castle, and then led them to the prepared guest rooms. Unlike Keslan's particularly remote guest room, Lu Shuang's room was close to Jiang Yu and spacious.
Lu Shuang chattered away the whole way, as if she single-handedly brought laughter and joy to the entire castle. She praised the magnificent castle and pulled Lan Yu to thank Jiang Yu, the divine messenger, and the saintess.
Jiang Yu is rather quiet, and with A Duo's strict adherence to order, the castle remains very tranquil, except for Lin Yi, who keeps the atmosphere somewhat lively.
Jiang Yu looked at Lu Shuang, who radiated light and warmth like a little sun, and felt very happy and close to her. She was always attracted to enthusiastic people.
She thought of Chen Xin again, guessing that Chen Xin and Lu Shuang would get along well, and that it would be great if they could get together sometime.
"Sigh, something came up during the royal banquet and I didn't get to go until the next day. By then, you and your friends were already confined to the palace. I couldn't find out anything no matter how hard I tried. The entire palace was shrouded in secrecy." Lu Shuang sighed deeply, still feeling a bit scared as she recalled the scene.
"After the banquet, I received another letter from the divine messenger, telling me not to worry. But not long after, news came of Lord Ren Kecheng's death and the destruction of the Ren family."
"I knew something was wrong."
“My mother told me not to ask around, saying that you are a lucky person and that she would keep me at home and not let me go to see you. You have no idea how worried I was.” Lu Shuang and Jiang Yu sat on the bay window, and she held Jiang Yu’s hand tightly.
"Although we've only known each other for a short time, I really consider you a friend. I was so worried about you, but there was nothing I could do. I'm so glad you're okay."
