Chapter 426 Differences in Case Investigation
Chapter 426 Differences in Case Investigation
After receiving their orders, the two crossed the blockade together and entered the family's house.
Upon entering the room, one could see bloodstains on the floor, walls, and even the ceiling, a shocking sight.
As soon as Bai Mengfei stepped into the room, she stopped, frowned slightly, and took a deep sniff of the bloody scent that filled the air.
When Zhao Fei saw her and Xiang Yuntian arrive, he briefly spoke a few words to his colleagues and sent them away before stepping forward.
"You've finally arrived!" Zhao Fei walked up to the two men and gave a brief introduction to the case. "I thought you two weren't coming."
"How could that be?" Bai Mengfei replied with a bitter smile, then looked around the room and asked, "Who were the people who were murdered in this room?"
“A family of five.” Zhao Fei explained the relationships between the people in detail. “There was a couple, their elderly mother, and their two daughters. As for why they were murdered, it is still under investigation. All we know for now is that they all died by knife. As for how many murderers there are, and what their physical characteristics are, we don’t know yet.”
Just as Zhao Fei was speaking, Bai Mengfei noticed that a police officer was wearing disposable gloves while investigating the scene. Her eyes widened, and she exclaimed, "Captain Zhao, look!"
Zhao Fei immediately called the policeman over. Bai Mengfei wasn't interested in what happened next, so she and Xiang Yuntian walked away. After they parted ways, they each went to different places to conduct their investigations.
When investigating cases, Bai Mengfei has never liked cooperating with others, and often feels that others will hinder her work.
She put on gloves, squatted alone on the floor, and stretched out her right hand, which was covered in white gloves, letting her fingers lightly brush over the mottled bloodstain.
She appeared to be touching, but in reality, she kept a distance of one or two centimeters from the bloodstains. She was simply feeling them, and at the same time, trying to recall how the blood had been spilled here and why it had taken this form.
Thinking it over, she turned her head and looked around. Her intuition told her that the deceased should have been in that spot. Turning her head, she frowned, because she saw some homework.
In other words, the blood likely came from the couple's school-aged daughter.
The murderer was so cruel, not even sparing children. What kind of irreconcilable hatred did he have with this family? Or could this be a murder case that escalated from a burglary?
Thinking of this, Bai Mengfei placed her hands on her knees and slowly stood up.
Seeing Zhao Fei standing there alone, staring at the ceiling, seemingly deep in thought, looking quite relaxed, Bai Mengfei slowly walked over and asked, "Have you checked this family's belongings? Is anything missing?"
Zhao Fei slowly shook his head and said, "In their bedroom, there's a drawer with some jewelry and other items still inside. So I think we can rule out the possibility that this was a robbery-murder."
Bai Mengfei nodded thoughtfully, continuing to ponder the murderer's true motive.
Just then, Xiang Yuntian hurried back, carrying a small plastic bag. Seeing his anxious appearance, Bai Mengfei immediately looked up.
"Look what I've found!"
Upon hearing Xiang Yuntian's words, Bai Mengfei and Zhao Fei both turned their attention to him, and were eventually drawn to the small plastic bag in his hand.
If you don't look closely, you can't tell what's in the bag at all.
Bai Mengfei, being observant, noticed that there was a strand of hair in the bag.
"How did you find this hair? Why did you collect it?" Bai Mengfei asked.
Finding hair at a crime scene is actually quite common. After all, many people have come to investigate, and this hair might have been dropped by one of the staff members.
Xiang Yuntian gently held the plastic bag containing the evidence in both hands, and deliberately straightened the hair inside the bag, explaining, "Look closely, this is a slightly curly, long, brown hair. Although I can't conclude that this hair belongs to the murderer, I'm certain that it doesn't belong to this family. Because I just asked a colleague who saw the body."
This single hair instantly became a crucial clue in solving the case.
After thinking for a moment, Zhao Fei nodded in satisfaction and said, "Very good. You guys should record this discovery first, and then take some photos at the scene. As for me, I'll go and interview their neighbors first; maybe someone witnessed what happened."
After saying that, Zhao Fei left with his men.
Xiang Yuntian and Bai Mengfei remained at the scene to conduct some simple evidence collection work, preserving evidence and reference samples.
Soon, only the two of them remained in the room.
Unconsciously, Xiang Yuntian felt a chill in the room, so he stopped what he was doing and turned to look at Bai Mengfei.
At this moment, Bai Mengfei was focused on investigating the case and did not notice his gaze.
Xiang Yuntian suddenly said to Bai Mengfei, "Mengfei, are you scared? A murder just happened here."
Bai Mengfei smiled faintly, continuing her work as she calmly replied, "You've known me for so long, have you ever seen me afraid? Although this case is indeed cruel, with an entire family brutally murdered, it's a heartbreaking tragedy. But haven't we seen far more horrific scenes?"
Xiang Yuntian dared not joke with Bai Mengfei anymore. He shrugged, continued taking pictures, and said with a faint smile, "Okay, I was just trying to liven things up and tease you."
"Alright, stop fooling around while we're working." Bai Mengfei's eyes regained their focus and seriousness.
After the two finished collecting the evidence, Bai Mengfei suggested, "Let's re-examine the scene, just like we're re-examining the first crime scene. Maybe we can find new clues."
Seeing Bai Mengfei's enthusiasm, Xiang Yuntian nodded in agreement.
They left the room first, then returned. Although Xiang Yuntian had been trained by Bai Mengfei, their methods of investigating crime scenes were quite different.
So they each used their own methods to continue investigating the case.
Bai Mengfei's method focuses more on paying attention to the things in front of her and various clues, and using these visible clues to explore the hidden story behind them.
Xiang Yuntian, on the other hand, is used to first conceiving the whole picture of the case in his mind, and then examining whether all the clues conform to the logic of reality.
