Chapter 8 The Sun Will Shine Tomorrow
Chapter 8 The Sun Will Shine Tomorrow
Fang Qi jogged along until pedestrians gradually appeared, at which point he slowed down.
"Damn, it's that creepy old man again, he scared me to death." On the weekend, he rarely had a day off from work and thought he would ask Su Jue to go out for a stroll, but as soon as he stepped out the door, he saw an old man who looked very much like the last one.
He wiped the sweat from his forehead and then turned his attention to the bustling street.
"Hey! Isn't this Fang Qi? What's wrong? Are you cured or have you escaped from the mental hospital?" Fang Qi was eating a sesame seed cake he had just bought when a hand suddenly landed on his shoulder.
"Huh? Brother Dong? Hehe, it's all better now, I'm fine." Fang Qi was a little embarrassed. The people around him had deliberately kept their distance from him after hearing that he had a history of mental illness.
Dong Ge was a troublemaker in his junior high school class, but Fang Qi thought that he shouldn't have any interaction with him.
"Really? I don't believe it." Dong Ge continued to find fault even after hearing this.
"Really... is there anything else, Brother Dong? I'm leaving." Fang Qi grinned foolishly and backed away step by step.
"Hey, don't go! I need to talk to you about something." Dong Ge took a big step forward, put one hand on Fang Qi's shoulder, and pointed to a roadside stall with the other: "Come on, let's find a place to sit down and talk."
"Ah... okay." Fang Qi was pushed to the side.
The streets were bustling with traffic, and the noise masked some subtle sounds. For example, the message Su Jue had just sent.
"Where are you? If you can't find your way, just tell me and I'll come pick you up." Su Jue clicked send and tossed her phone aside, turning her attention to matters of God.
……
"Alright, alright, I'm not going to beat around the bush with you anymore. Do you have superpowers?" Dong Ge took a big bite out of a skewer of grilled meat and then threw the skewer on the ground.
"What superpowers, Dong-ge? You've been rehearsing for a play lately?" Fang Qi replied, head down.
Meanwhile, at the next table to Fang Qi, a young woman with disheveled hair watched the drama unfold with a mocking expression.
She took out her phone, snapped a picture of Fang Qi and the others, and then started eating by herself.
"I need you to kill someone for me." Dong Ge took out a photo of a young man smoking on the roadside. He was probably a thug, or maybe he had a falling out with Dong Ge.
"No way, Dong-ge, I can't kill anyone. Let me teach you a lesson, that's enough. Besides, I really don't have any superpowers." Fang Qi scratched his head.
He didn't know how Dong-ge knew about his magical abilities, nor did he know what kind of conflict could make him want to kill.
"That's not up to you." Dong Ge waved his hand, and the two people beside him put their hands on Fang Qi's shoulders and led him away.
"Interesting." As soon as the group left, the girl with the loose hair took out her phone and started her entertainment for the day.
……
"Who passed on the three words of the warlock to every warlock's mind, and what does it mean to him... um?" Su Jue was drawing a mind map with a pen when a phone notification interrupted him.
When he opened it, he was surprised to find it wasn't Fang Qi's request, but a friend request—
"Agree quickly! It's important!"
"Who are you?" Su Jue asked after accepting the friend request.
"Xu Menghe," the person on the other end briefly introduced themselves.
"How did you find my contact information? And what's the matter?" Su Jue put down her pen and held her phone with both hands.
"I asked Pei Min for it, don't worry about that for now, take a look at this." Xu Menghe then sent a photo, in which Fang Qi was looking down and surrounded by several thugs.
"Is he your friend? I remember seeing his contact information when I asked Pei Min for it. You two went on a mission together." Then, she added an emoji.
"What's going on?" Su Jue sat up.
"Your friend is a coward. Now he's been taken away. I'll send you my location. How long will it take for him to get here?" Xu Menghe said, sending her her location.
"Just a small-time thug, I can't take him down." After sending the message, Su Jue put on his coat, sighed, and sent another message.
Five minutes.
There were no pedestrians or vehicles on the path, and a long, straight flame stretched across the road shrouded in night.
Su Jue followed the location on the map and found a roadside stall where Xu Menghe was eating barbecue.
"Which way did you go?" Su Jue looked down at Xu Menghe.
"Over there, I'll take you there!" Xu Menghe finished the last skewer of barbecue, got up and walked towards the place where Fang Qi had just left, with Su Jue following closely behind.
……
"What do you mean you've never killed anyone? What a joke! Didn't you kill your parents? Huh? Hahahaha!" In the alley, Dong Ge shoved Fang Qi.
It seemed that these words provoked Fang Qi, because he collapsed to the ground due to Dong Ge's light but firm shove.
"No...it wasn't me! No...it really wasn't me." Fang Qi curled up, his fingers almost digging into his palms.
Seeing this, Dong Ge chuckled, kicked Fang Qi, then squatted down and whispered in his ear, "You killed your parents! You're a murderer, and a lunatic too! Hahahaha!"
The laughter lasted only a moment before Dong Ge froze. He saw Fang Qi looking up at him, his fists clenched against the wall, his eyes bloodshot, as if he were a bloodthirsty murderer.
"What...you want to kill someone?" Dong Ge's voice was tinged with fear. As if to bolster his courage, he kicked out, "Fuck..."
But his foot was still in mid-air when it was struck by a sparking stone.
Dong Ge lay on the ground, his feet bent in an abnormal way.
"It's broken, it's broken, you're finished, hahaha!" Xu Menghe quickly came over and mocked the thug on the ground.
"You're not even human." Xu Menghe had observed Dong Ge carefully and found his appearance strange, so she concluded that there was something wrong with him. After saying that, she took a picture of him.
Then, as if she had discovered something amusing, she pointed the camera at Su Jue and Fang Qi.
"I just told you to message me if you need anything." Su Jue bent down and reached out her hand to Fang Qi on the ground.
Upon hearing Su Jue's voice, Fang Qi gradually relaxed. He immediately withdrew his hand after touching Su Jue and hugged his head, saying, "I didn't... I didn't kill anyone."
Fang Qi's voice was still trembling noticeably. Su Jue saw the tears glistening in his eyes and managed a rare smile: "Yes, I believe you."
Fang Qi froze after hearing the two words Su Jue uttered. His hand slowly lowered and finally stopped in Su Jue's palm.
"I took this for you, you're welcome." Xu Menghe took out her phone and sent the photo of the two of them that she had just taken to Su Jue.
After helping Fang Qi up, Su Jue looked at Dong Ge on the ground and said, "He's dead."
"Found it. Although it's not outwardly visible, it's been dead for some time." Xu Menghe put away her phone. "Want to know what happened?"
"If you know, just say so." Su Jue looked at Xu Yafang.
"How can you be so hypocritical? You just said 'I believe you~' and now you say 'If you know, just say it.' What? Are you gay?!" Xu Menghe mimicked Su Jue's earlier behavior, gesturing wildly as she complained.
"I'm just... not very good at talking to the opposite sex," Su Jue thought for a moment.
"Huh? Hahaha, I thought you were the aloof type." Xu Menghe was stunned for a moment when she heard Su Jue's words, then burst into laughter, "You promise to do three things for me, and I'll tell you."
"It's fine as long as it's within the bounds of principle." Su Jue accepted the invitation, feeling that the three things wouldn't be difficult.
"It should be Zhang Fuyin, a reclusive guy. His skill is manipulating corpses. It is said that he is part of an organization, but I don't know which one he belongs to. He's very mysterious. No matter how I search, I can't find anything." Xu Menghe took out her phone and looked through the information she had collected.
"Who?" Su Jue asked, suddenly noticing someone staring at them from the rooftop next to her.
"You have a good eye on Fang Qi." Su Jue gently removed Fang Qi's hand from his shoulder.
Su Jue drew several spells, which then moved towards Fang Qi and Xu Yafang. With a snap of his fingers, warm flames rose slowly, forming a barrier.
Before leaving, he noticed that his two underlings' eyes were completely empty, so he threw two stones at them.
Their bodies, like Dong Ge's, were twisted and contorted at will.
As expected, it was a dead person.
"You just dumped me like that? I came here to have fun, okay?" Xu Menghe complained, while looking at Fang Qi: "Huh?"
Her gaze fell on the wall that Fang Qi had been leaning against, where there were several scratch marks, seemingly left by someone using brute force.
She muttered to herself, "You two are really something."
