Chapter 26 The Underage Wolf Cang
Chapter 26 The Underage Wolf Cang
Lang Cang put down the clam shell in his hand and took the basket off his back.
The young man, still basking in the joy of beachcombing, sat by the fire and said with a smile, "Lang Cang and I found a lot of seafood, all of it edible!"
Looking at Lin Baiyan's beaming smile at Xiong Fei, Lang Cang felt inexplicably uncomfortable.
Xiong Fei knew Lin Baiyan's ability to find food. Judging from the past few times, the priest had never found anything that was not delicious. Chestnuts, potatoes, and even pain grass had become good things in his hands.
He looked at the large seashell in the basket and licked his lips expectantly.
"Where is the water source you just found? We need to go wash these seafood." The young man turned to look at Lang Cang.
Upon hearing this, Lang Cang immediately said, "Then let's go, I'll take you there."
Then he immediately picked up his basket and walked ahead. The young man was a little confused and hurriedly chased after him, calling out, "Hey, Lang Cang, slow down! Wait for me!"
Upon hearing this, Lang Cang slowed his pace almost imperceptibly.
Lin Baiyan caught up with him in just a few steps. The two walked in the woods. It was completely dark, but the forest was not dim. The moonlight shone faintly through the gaps in the leaves, creating a unique charm.
Tiny stars twinkled in the woods, and those who knew better blinked in amazement at the fluorescent lights surrounding them. "Wow! There are fireflies here!"
He rarely sees live fireflies on Earth anymore. Massive industrial pollution has ravaged the planet's environment beyond recognition, and fireflies and other such creatures are now probably extinct.
He was busy with work, and after his grandparents passed away, he rarely had time to return to his hometown. The fireflies he saw in the mountains when he was a child became a memory he could never return to.
He never imagined that he would be able to see these things in another world if he were given a second chance.
Only then did Lin Baiyan truly feel a sense of existence, which was perhaps the reason why God gave him a second chance.
This will allow him to relax and truly appreciate the world.
Since his transmigration, the young man has been unconsciously anxious, and of course, the reality he is in also leaves him no choice but to worry.
Without food, warm clothes, or shelter, he lived in constant fear, afraid that one day he would be swept away by unknown dangers.
Lin Baiyan stretched out his hand, and a firefly gently landed on his fingertip, flashing as if greeting him.
He couldn't help but smile, and the anxiety in his heart gradually dissipated.
Let's take it one step at a time, things will get better eventually. Sometimes it's good to be a little lazy, right?
The young man finally relaxed his tense emotions.
Lang Cang watched Lin Baiyan play with the fireflies silently, a hint of tenderness flashing in his eyes.
Upon reaching the stream, the young man squatted down and used clean water to wash away the sand and grime. Lang Cang followed his example and began cleaning with him. He learned very quickly and, once he mastered the task, he wouldn't let Lin Baiyan do it anymore.
"I'll do it, you go sit over there for a while," Lang Cang said softly.
He raised his chin, gesturing to Lin Baiyan, "Don't you like those fireflies? Go play with them a little longer." He spoke in a tone as if coaxing a little child.
The young man felt a little embarrassed upon hearing this; he had actually been seen acting so childishly by Lang Cang.
"I'm not playing anymore. No, I was just curious." Lin Baiyan said, reaching for another octopus to clean.
"Don't mistake me for Wolf Cloud and his gang!" He's about to turn 18!
Wolf Cang's eyes were full of laughter, "He's still a little cub, just one day shy of adulthood."
Lang Cang wouldn't let him do anything, so in the end, the young man could only sit on a rock and watch Lang Cang huff and puff as he washed the seafood.
Lin Baiyan looked at Lang Cang's serious profile. He was indeed handsome, with a high nose bridge and thin lips. He was particularly intimidating when he had a cold face. But the young man knew that Lang Cang was a person who was cold on the outside but warm on the inside. Otherwise, he would not have led this group of beastmen to escape here.
"And you? How old are you now?" The young man, remembering what they had just said, blurted out the question.
Lang Cang paused in washing the crabs, then mumbled, "Anyway, they're bigger than you."
"How much bigger?" the young man asked, genuinely curious.
Lang Cang turned his head and gave him a helpless look, "Not even twenty, I guess..."
What? The young man looked at Lang Cang in surprise.
He always thought that Lang Cang was already an adult!
Before that... he was just pretending to be an adult?
The young man recalled Lang Cang's cold expression earlier, and now that he thought about it, it did seem like he was just putting on a show of composure.
Lin Baiyan burst out laughing, teasing Lang Cang, "But you're not an adult either, are you? And you're still talking about me!"
Wolf Cang felt a little guilty. "It's easier for adult beastmen to do things."
That's true. The young man recalled Rabbit Forest's attitude towards him before. If he hadn't later become a priest, probably few adult beastmen would have trusted what the little cub said.
Lin Baiyan rolled her eyes and said with a smile, "Then we're evenly matched."
"Don't worry, I will definitely keep this secret for you and will never tell anyone."
If Lang Cang tells him this, does that mean they're friends now? Lin Baiyan thought happily.
He was immediately puzzled. "Then how do you know you're about to turn 18?" Based on his understanding over the past few days, orcs didn't have a very clear concept of age; they didn't have the concept of age or year.
Most of them are just figurative numbers. For example, Tu Lin always says he's in his fifties, but he's actually in his fifties. When asked, he can't answer that.
Hearing his question, Lang Cang paused, his ears turning slightly red. "When you're almost an adult, you'll feel it for yourself."
What? How would he know?
Lin Baiyan glanced at Lang Cang suspiciously, finding him rather strange.
But after that, no matter how much he asked, Lang Cang refused to say anything more.
"Don't ask anymore, I told you you'll know when you come of age!" Lang Cang pleaded, his voice becoming somewhat rough.
The blush spread from his ears to his cheeks. He hadn't expected Lin Baiyan to be so persistent. Fortunately, the moonlight was soft and he couldn't see anything unusual about him.
The young man thought he was getting impatient, so he had no choice but to give up.
If I don't tell him, he can ask Lu Xiao when he gets back!
He remembered that Lu Xiao had grown up!
I thought they were already friends...
The young man, somewhat annoyed, tugged at the weeds beside his legs.
Lang Cang packed up the cleaned seafood. He then filled two large clam shells with water, slung the basket over his shoulder, stacked the two clam shells together, and stood up to look at Lin Baiyan.
"We should go back," Lang Cang said softly.
Lin Baiyan nodded and stepped forward to take a clam shell, but Lang Cang dodged him. "It's not heavy, don't touch it." He looked at the young man's fair and delicate hands, which were so thin that they could easily be scratched by the clam shell.
Seeing that Lang Cang insisted, Lin Baiyan simply went along with him and took the lead in walking back.
Neither of them spoke the rest of the way, but the atmosphere between them became somewhat strange.
