Chapter 95 Pulling a Cart
Chapter 95 Pulling a Cart
Hu Qing seemed unaware of the words he had just uttered that had excited Ai Hong. He then filled two bamboo bowls with meat soup and pointed to the two small beasts by the wall, saying, "This is their food."
Ai Hong quickly held the three bamboo bowls in his arms, finally feeling a sense of reality. He kept bowing and scraping to Hu Qing, "Thank you, sir, thank you, sir!"
He dashed back to the two little cubs, handing them the meat soup he was carrying. "Quick, the adults have given us meat soup, drink it!"
He had just seen that the broth was in the same pot as the other orcs!
The two cubs quickly took the bamboo bowls from the dwarf red-haired girl and began to wolf down their food.
Ai Hong looked at them lovingly, "Eat slowly, Grandpa Hong has more if you're not full!"
Ai Chengmeng took a big gulp of the meat soup, and even though he choked on the potato chunks inside, he stretched his neck and swallowed it down.
Little Stone held his bamboo bowl, drinking as he whispered to Little Red, "Grandpa Red, you should drink too, this meat soup is so delicious."
"I wish the other cubs in the cave could drink it too."
Ai Hong listened to Ai Shi's words with a touch of sadness. They were being held captive here and were unable to move at all, let alone escape.
I wonder how the feverish cubs are doing in the cave, whether they're any better...
A hint of worry flashed in Dwarf Red's cloudy eyes.
Fortunately, these beastmen don't seem to have any intention of killing them yet.
But no one knows what the future holds, and Ai Hong's heart is filled with apprehension.
Inside the cave, Ai Hong was worrying about their future, while outside, Lin Baiyan and Hu Jiang were exhausted.
The wheels of the cart were not so easy to make.
A circular wheel is divided into six parts, with eighteen axles, all nailed to the central cylindrical gourd head using mortise and tenon joints.
The net and the axle of the cart had to be made as identical as possible, and the protrusion on the wheelbarrow had to fit perfectly into the gourd head in the middle. It took the two of them an entire morning just to make the net and axle of the two wheels.
After the car net and auxiliary parts were completed, it was already dark. Lin Baiyan and Hu Jiang put the unfinished parts in a corner of the cave and went their separate ways.
The next day, the two of them started assembling the wheels with clanging and banging.
The orcs who were free in the tribe also gathered around out of curiosity. They thought that the wooden plank was pretty good; it could be easily slid up on the snow.
But the priest said there was something even better.
After the wheels were installed, Lin Baiyan took out a wooden stick and chiseled a square notch at both ends, then chiseled it into the gourd heads of the two wheels.
Then insert a small rectangular piece of wood into the notch in the stick to secure the wheel.
Lin Baiyan struck the hammer one last time, driving the wooden block firmly into the stick. Then he threw away the hammer, pushed hard forward, and the wheel began to slide.
The orcs stared in astonishment as they watched the wheel in the priest's hand suddenly begin to slide in mid-air. What was that?
Lin Baiyan was somewhat excited; it was a success!
He called to Hu Jiang, and the two of them embedded the finished wooden planks into the wooden sticks, and a simple push-pull cart was ready. A wheelbarrow and a canopy could be placed at the back.
With a two-wheeled cart, how far away is a four-wheeled cart?
Lin Baiyan waved to Lang Cang, who was waiting to the side. Lang Cang stepped forward and removed a splinter from Lin Baiyan's head.
Lin Baiyan excitedly patted Lang Cang on the shoulder, "Quickly transform into beast form, I'll show you how powerful this cart is!"
Lang Cang obediently let out a howl, and then a large white wolf stood tall in front of Lin Baiyan.
Lin Baiyan tied the cart together with a thick straw rope, then put it on Lang Cang's body. He patted the wolf's fur and said, "Run!"
The big white wolf made a gurgling sound in its throat, put its four paws to work, and slowly started pulling the cart, then the speed increased, and the wooden wheels spun rapidly.
The cart moved forward following Lang Cang's movements, leaving the surrounding orcs utterly astonished.
Fox Jiang stared at the cart with utter fascination; he could hardly believe that such an exquisite cart had been created by him and the priest.
Lang Cang slowly stopped moving. He returned to Lin Baiyan's side and transformed back into human form. "Is this thing difficult to make?"
Lang Cang's eyesight was even sharper. He immediately realized how much convenience this thing could bring them. He had pulled the cart forward with great ease, as if he had nothing on his back.
Lin Baiyan smiled slyly, "Whether it's difficult or not depends on who does it."
If you don't understand the principles, you'll basically never be able to make it in your lifetime.
Those mortise and tenon joints were firmly nailed inside, and you couldn't see them on the outside at all.
Lang Cang chuckled as he looked at Lin Baiyan's slightly cunning expression.
Their eyes met, and they both understood each other's meaning.
The male beastmen waiting nearby huddled together, all wanting to try out the cart. Tiger Hill bravely stepped forward, "Boss... hehehe, can I take it for a spin?"
Lang Cang remained noncommittal, tossing the straw rope noose to Hu Qiu, who caught it and eagerly transformed into his beast form, putting it on and starting to run.
So cool!
This thing is really useful! Sure enough, the priest never lied to them. This is much better than that bare board!
After the male beastmen had all been looked at, Lin Baiyan stepped forward to check the wear and tear on the wheels.
He and Hu Jiang had already selected relatively resilient wood, but without the outermost protective layer, the wear and tear rate was still relatively high.
If only we had rubber, we could make tires. Or even iron, we could add a protective layer on the outside.
However, for now he can only think about it, not to mention whether rubber actually exists on the Orc continent.
Even if they did, he remembered that rubber was mostly produced in the south, and since they were in the north, it was unlikely they could find any.
It's okay, wrapping the wheels with layers of straw rope can provide some protection, but you'll need to replace the rope and make repairs from time to time.
The orcs quickly saw the benefits of the cart, and Fox Jiang began to work day and night carving wood. Now, almost every orc in the tribe can weave baskets, and his task has shifted to the cart.
Lin Baiyan would also help out when he had free time. He had wanted to send a few people to Hujiang to work together, but carpentry really does require some talent.
Apart from him and Hu Jiang, the other beastmen among their tribe made wooden pieces that were either crooked or didn't match the specifications.
So Lin Baiyan could only work alongside Hu Jiang as a carpenter every day.
