Chapter 69 The Back Mountain of the Wang Family
Chapter 69 The Back Mountain of the Wang Family
"Mi'er just wants Brother Xiaojue to stay with me all the time!" Wang Mi pouted, her gaze towards Yan Huai was beyond resentment. "You were going out, and Grandpa didn't tell me, and you didn't even say goodbye. You'll be gone for ten days or half a month..."
That's an exaggeration...
Yan Huai was somewhat speechless, but he still had to say the polite words. As for the matter of going to the ancient Khmer Kingdom tomorrow morning, it seemed that Wang Quan wanted him to bring it up.
"I've had a lot to deal with lately. I apologize to Mi'er. Once I'm done, I'll make up for all the time I've lost, okay?" Yeah, right! Yan Huai silently added those two words in his mind.
Wang Mi's expression didn't seem to have softened much. She kept her head down; she had already overheard some of it. Tomorrow morning... it seemed her little Jue brother was leaving again...
"Don't be sad, brother will go with you to the back mountain. How about we have some wild game tonight?"
In Wang Jue's memory, Wang Mi had always been a straightforward and spoiled girl. Although she wasn't inherently bad, she had been influenced by the Wang family circle and was somewhat stubborn and shrewd. Therefore, Yan Huai dared not be careless. He would replicate exactly how Wang Jue treated her.
"I want to eat pheasant! And wild fox! Whatever I point to, you have to beat me!"
"Okay, okay!" Yan Huai readily agreed with a smile. Anyway, it wasn't his back mountain, so he could do whatever he wanted!
But after Yan Huai had prepared all the hunting tools and stepped into the back mountain, he began to have some doubts about this idea.
The dense forest in the distance was covered by a layer of white mist, and there was a faint scent in the air that Yan Huai found strangely familiar, but he was certain that he had never smelled it before in his memory.
"System, what's going on?"
"Host, please explore on your own."
It's been so long since I've heard those words... Yan Huai was momentarily stunned. It seemed that the last time the system said those words, the clues pointed to his identity and memories.
"Brother Xiaojue, what's wrong? Is something the problem?" Seeing Yan Huai slow down, Wang Mi turned her head and asked in confusion.
"It's alright, let's go!" Yan Huai simply smiled in response. He casually patted Wang Mi's head and then led the group towards the path behind the mountain.
After the two of them walked around the path one after the other, the so-called real back mountain of the Wang family was revealed. In fact, it was just a large area of dense forest.
This place is like a natural hunting ground and a habitat for wild beasts. However, what Yan Huai is concerned about is that the further he goes in, the more he feels that there is something strange about this dense forest.
The scent in his nostrils was fainter than the white mist and lighter than the hazy dust. It seemed to be deliberately enticing Yan Huai to go further in, and all of this was a feeling that Wang Jue's memories had not given him.
Thinking of this, Yan Huai glanced at Wang Mi without showing any emotion; she seemed to be completely unaware of the smell as well.
"Brother Xiaojue! Over there, a wild rabbit!" As they walked to a certain spot, Wang Mi's voice suddenly rang out and reached Yan Huai's ears.
Yan Huai instinctively nocked a crossbow bolt. The arrow pierced the air, instantly passing through the dense foliage it had been passing through, and finally pinned the leaping gray rabbit firmly to the base of a tree trunk.
"Wow! Brother Xiaojue is so amazing!" Wang Mi looked at Yan Huai with starry eyes, then skipped and hopped towards the direction where the gray rabbit was being hunted.
"Be careful!" Yan Huai said as he followed, not because he was worried about Wang Mi's safety, but because if something happened to this person in front of him or even if he died, it would be very troublesome for the Wang family to explain.
"Understood!" Wang Mi smiled as she pulled the arrow out of the gray rabbit's neck, ignoring the blood that seeped out.
Looking back at Yan Huai standing behind her, Wang Mi was happy to have some free time. She skillfully hung the gray rabbit on the belt tied around Yan Huai's waist, and then patted it on the shoulder: "First prey, all hung up!"
"Yes, Miss Mi'er!" Yan Huai smiled indulgently. He cooperated by giving the Wang family's greeting and then led Wang Mi deeper into the dense forest.
And there, the flavor became stronger...
