Chapter 273 Tragedy
Chapter 273 Tragedy
The border of the Demon Realm.
The smoke of war has finally dissipated, but the Demon Realm is unrecognizable. Flames leap weakly in the Demon Realm, as if lamenting its former glory.
The once fertile black soil has been eroded by blood and magic, becoming barren, cracked, and devoid of any vegetation.
The crisscrossing Demon River no longer flows with vibrant water, but with murky, foul-smelling sewage.
Limbs were scattered everywhere, monsters cried out for help in hoarse voices, and demon soldiers and generals fought back with great difficulty.
"So you're the new Demon Lord? You're not even guarding the Demon Realm, which we've already conquered." The Demon Lord who remained at the border said disdainfully, his broadsword stained with blood.
Xie Wanxun chuckled lightly: "I'm back. You should all get lost, you rats of the Abyss of Ten Thousand Demons."
The Demon Lord's veins bulged as he leaped into the air, his blade tracing a sharp arc, accompanied by a whistling wind, and slashed towards Xie Wanxun with overwhelming force. Even before the blade arrived, the chilling aura emanating from it was already overwhelming, seemingly capable of tearing the air apart.
Xie Wanxun did not dodge. As she raised her eyes, she raised her right hand and used the Crimson Sky Sword in her hand to block the broadsword.
The Demon Lord increased the pressure in his hand, and the blade was covered in demonic energy.
Suddenly, black vines wrapped around him, lifting him high into the air, rendering him unable to move.
"Very well, I acknowledge your cultivation level, so I will accept your demonic energy."
Xie Wanxun looked at the Demon Lord with a smile.
The ground suddenly cracked open, and countless thick vines, like hungry pythons, surged wildly out of the dark earth, bringing with them a rustling sound of breaking through the soil.
In the blink of an eye, the vines tightly bound the Demon Lord. Their rough skin was covered with sharp thorns, tearing clothes to shreds and leaving bloody marks on the skin wherever they went.
The Demon Lord struggled desperately, letting out painful roars, but could only watch helplessly as the vines tightened their grip, making it increasingly difficult for him to breathe.
The vines greedily absorbed the demonic energy from them until it was completely drained, leaving the lifeless Demon Lord lying on the ground.
Xie Wanxun flew towards the Demon Palace. Along the way, the demonic beasts and demon lords were all entangled by vines, leaving only a pile of dried corpses.
Xie Wanxun exuded demonic energy, leaving dark traces wherever she went. Vines sprouted behind her, stained with blood, but unable to conceal their blackness.
Arrived at the Demon Palace.
Outside the Demon Palace, the corpses of puppet monsters were piled up like small mountains, and the devastation left by the explosion was everywhere.
Despite being mentally prepared, Xie Wanxun still trembled involuntarily a few times.
The Demon Palace has been breached.
She had already deployed tens of thousands of puppet monsters to protect the Demon Palace, and all the little paper figures were guarding the Demon Palace, yet she still failed to protect it?
After the great war between humans and demons, the demon race was severely weakened, and Xie Wanxun placed the remaining demons next to the Demon Palace for protection.
She is the Demon Lord, and she must protect the demon race.
Therefore, she placed most of the puppet monsters and paper figures in the Demon Palace, hoping to protect the last of the demon race.
Even so, it's not acceptable.
Xie Wanxun could guess the horrific scene inside the Demon Palace even without going inside; it was probably littered with corpses.
Sure enough, the stench of blood filled the air as soon as they entered the Demon Palace.
The demon soldiers lay sprawled on the ground, their severed limbs scattered around them, and blood gushed out, forming a dark red stream that meandered into the distance.
A demon soldier was pierced through the abdomen by a sharp blade and fell heavily to the ground. His hand trembled as he covered the wound, and bright red blood kept seeping from between his fingers.
Xie Wanxun glanced over, and in a flash, she was beside him. Just as she was about to reach out to help, the demon soldier used his last bit of strength to weakly say, "Your Excellency... don't worry about me." His voice was weak and intermittent, "The war is urgent. I can't let things be delayed because of you. You and everyone... will definitely be able to turn the tide of the war."
Xie Wanning frowned, a hint of reluctance flashing in her eyes. She bent down to channel demonic energy into the demonic soldier, only to find that the soldier's aura was growing weaker and weaker.
He was badly injured.
"Your Majesty... if you need help... I am willing to be refined... into a puppet, to continue fighting for the Demon Realm..."
"Don't say anything more." Xie Wanxun took a deep breath, her voice trembling slightly. "Don't worry, I'll be back."
After saying that, her figure disappeared like a ghost, and she walked back into the depths of the Demon Palace, leaving only the demon soldiers watching the direction she left in. They slowly closed their eyes, and a relieved smile appeared on their lips.
Xie Wanxun felt immense pain in her heart. More than half of the demon soldiers had been killed or wounded, and these demon soldiers were all her subordinates. Now she could only watch them die helplessly.
Xie Wanxun angrily flung her sleeves and rushed to the top floor of the Demon Palace, only to encounter the dying Chi Sha.
He knelt on one knee, his right arm severed cleanly at the root, flesh torn open, blood gushing out, crimson blood flowing down the severed arm and pooling on the ground. His right cheek was a bloody mess, where his eye used to be, now only a deep, bloody hole remained, the eyeball nowhere to be seen, blood mixed with bits of flesh sliding down his cheek and dripping onto his tattered clothes.
Xie Wanxun quickly raised her hand to channel demonic energy into him, but Chi Sha grabbed her hand, stopping her.
"Demon Lord, the people in the city... have all been moved to the Cliff of Oblivion as you previously instructed. The Demon Realm has not... been destroyed."
After saying that, Chi Sha's hand fell to the ground, and he became lifeless.
Xie Wanxun stood up with a stern face and bowed deeply.
The Demon Realm has never lacked valiant warriors, nor has it lacked heroes who protect it.
Xie Wanxun walked towards the rooftop, her body radiating a strong demonic aura.
Upon arriving at the Demon Palace's main hall, a figure sat on the throne.
He was tall and imposing, his black robes billowing in the wind, seemingly capable of swallowing up all the light in the world. His long hair was casually tied up, with a few stray strands falling across his sharply defined face, which was stained with bright red blood.
He stared silently at the scene before him. The center of the hall was filled with the corpses of demon soldiers, and the stench of blood was nauseating, but it did not move the person on the platform in the slightest.
He raised his eyes slightly when he heard the sound of footsteps, a hint of joy flashing in them.
"They're all dead, so what?" Mu Jinchen's tone was tinged with amusement. "But I've left you a surprise."
As he spoke, Mu Jinchen pointed in a direction.
Xia Mengchu collapsed to the ground, covered in blood, her eyes filled with deep despair.
Before her stood Meili, her body pierced by a sword.
Xia Mengchu looked ahead, tears welling up in her eyes.
"how?"
A resolute glint flashed in Xie Wanxun's eyes. She shifted her feet and charged towards Mu Jinchen like an arrow released from a bow.
The long sword in his hand, like a silver snake emerging from its hole, pierced towards Mu Jinchen's chest with an indomitable momentum.
With a dull "thud," the sword was halfway embedded in the ground.
However, Xie Wanxun's eyes widened, her face filled with horror and disbelief as she looked down at the Crimson Sky Sword piercing her body.
Just a moment ago, the Crimson Sky Sword suddenly slipped from his hand and turned to stab Xie Wanxun.
The sharp blade pierced through his body. Xie Wanxun groaned and fell to his knees, his body trembling violently.
"To use a sword I forged to fight me is utterly laughable!" Mu Jinchen drew his Crimson Sky Sword and performed a sleek sword flourish.
The tip of the sword gently pressed against Xie Wanxun's chin, and with a slight force, lifted her lowered face.
"Xie Wanning?" Shock flashed in Mu Jinchen's eyes.
"It's Xie Wanxun."
Xie Wanxun smiled faintly, and the lacquered wooden sword that suddenly appeared in her hand drew a sharp arc, carrying the force of breaking the wind, and thrust straight at Mu Jinchen's throat.
