Chapter 187 Danger is Coming
Chapter 187 Danger is Coming
"You mean, she went to work yesterday and didn't come back?" The police officer who received the call put down his pen and looked up to ask.
"Yes, I went out around this time yesterday morning, and then I haven't been in contact with anyone since..."
“It’s only been 24 hours since yesterday. According to regulations, a case cannot be filed until 48 hours have passed. Go back first and ask her acquaintances and friends. We’ll talk again if we still can’t contact her after 48 hours!” The police officer put away his notebook.
“Officer, this matter can’t be delayed. I feel something’s wrong with her. Someone is impersonating me and sending text messages; it’s clearly an attempt to trick her into going out…”
"If everyone reports a case just because they feel something is wrong, then what's the point of reporting it to us? You might as well just figure it out yourselves!" The police officer's tone was clearly impatient as he got up to leave.
Qin Yanlin was anxious and grabbed the police officer's arm, saying, "But this is really different! There's really a problem!"
"Are you trying to assault a police officer?!" As soon as the police officer finished speaking, Qin Yanlin's right arm was handcuffed behind his back.
"No, no, officer, how could I dare to assault a police officer? I'm sorry, I'm sorry, it was my fault! Please let go." His hands were hurting so much from being gripped so tightly, it felt like they were about to break, and Qin Yanlin quickly apologized.
"We're just here to report a crime, we won't assault the police, we won't!" Zhang Liuying and Li Xiang quickly explained.
"That's good!" The policeman released Qin Yanlin, glanced at him sideways, and left.
Frustrated, the group went to Liu Youzhen's home and company again, but Liu Youzhen had not returned, and her phone was still switched off.
Returning home with a heavy heart, Deng Xiuzhen was cooking, with more than ten dishes laid out on the table.
Qin Yanlin remembered that it was Friday and the children would be back in the evening.
Upon hearing that Liu Youzhen had disappeared, Deng Xiuzhen was so shocked that she dropped her bowl: based on her understanding of Liu Youzhen, there was a 200% chance that something had happened to her!
She was terribly panicked, instinctively feeling that this was no small matter, but a matter of life and death.
"Did you call the police?" Deng Xiuzhen asked anxiously, ignoring the broken bowl.
"I reported it, but the police said it hadn't been 48 hours and they wouldn't file a case," Qin Yanlin replied, picking up a broom to tidy up.
"Let's ignore this scumbag and go to the police station right away!" Deng Xiuzhen turned around, turned off the stove, grabbed Qin Yanlin, and ran outside.
"They refuse to file a case, so why go to the police station?" Qin Yanlin asked as he ran.
"Go try again, we must report this case and tell them to find the person immediately!" Deng Xiuzhen said breathlessly as she ran.
"Xiuzhen, going to the police station now is useless!" Qin Yanlin grabbed Deng Xiuzhen and told her that he had almost been charged with assaulting a police officer at the police station.
Deng Xiuzhen's unease intensified; she felt suffocated, uncomfortable all over, and had difficulty breathing.
She knew this was her gut feeling about danger: Liu Youzhen's matter would bring her danger, and it might even be fatal.
Time ticked by, and the discomfort grew stronger and stronger.
Deng Xiuzhen couldn't wait any longer, so she ran to the police station.
Qin Yanlin had no choice but to run after him.
"Didn't we say to come back in 48 hours? What are you doing here now?" Unfortunately, they were greeted by the same two police officers as before.
Deng Xiuzhen looked up, her heart inexplicably tightening; she sensed danger emanating from the two police officers.
“That’s an employee of my company. Her child is crying at home for his mother. We felt sorry for the child and were wondering if we could trouble you to help us find her.” Deng Xiuzhen tried to calm herself and keep her voice steady.
“The child wants her mother, so please comfort her. It’s not that we’re making things difficult for you, but we have our own rules. If she’s still not home by tomorrow, please come back.” Deng Xiuzhen’s tone softened, and the police officer’s tone also became calm.
Deng Xiuzhen inexplicably felt that the two police officers seemed to have breathed a sigh of relief. Upon closer inspection, however, she found nothing; their expressions, demeanor, and movements remained almost unchanged.
"We'll head back now, thank you for your help." Deng Xiuzhen said, getting up and leaving the police station.
"Let's go back, the children should go home," Qin Yanlin said softly, pulling on the dazed Deng Xiuzhen.
Come back home?
Deng Xiuzhen glanced back and then walked quickly forward.
When they got home, the children were indeed back, continuing the dinner that Deng Xiuzhen hadn't finished making.
Upon seeing Deng Xiuzhen and Qin Yanlin, he happily came up to greet them.
Deng Xiuzhen forced a smile and responded to the children.
The food was served, and the family enjoyed a lively meal together.
A dark figure quietly left from the shadows by the wall outside the house and quickly arrived at the police station.
"How is it? Any problems?" Zhang Bin, the police officer who said Qin Yanlin assaulted a police officer during the day, asked in a low voice, his expression sinister.
"The family was having dinner and didn't mention it again, nor did they contact anyone else. They probably didn't discover anything."
"They're probably just afraid of getting into trouble, simply worried about the company's employees. You're being far too cautious," Cai Bang said dismissively.
“The higher-ups said there’s been some unusual activity lately, the situation is not right, we need to be extremely cautious, we can’t afford to make the slightest mistake!” Zhang Bin paused and then continued, “Unless you don’t want to live!”
Cai Bang felt a chill run down his spine and straightened up, but stubbornly said, "It's not certain whether that woman surnamed Liu is inside or not. If she's not inside, we can still earn merit by solving the case."
"What if they're inside? If we give away even the slightest clue and ruin things for the higher-ups, who can take the blame?"
Today, that guy surnamed Qin said that Liu Youzhen received the text message and went out. This is a tactic that the higher-ups have been using frequently lately.
Liu Youzhen's disappearance is most likely related to those people. We're following orders from above; we'll delay as much as possible and try not to take any action. Anyway, we're just following policy, so if anything goes wrong, they won't blame us.
"If you want to make this contribution, it's uncertain whether our level of expertise is even enough to solve the case. If we ruin those people's plans, the higher-ups will make sure you suffer a terrible fate!" Zhang Bin said, emphasizing his words.
Cai Bang shrank back and didn't say anything more.
After finishing her meal, Deng Xiuzhen went back to her room and checked the surveillance footage on her phone. Seeing the figure that had come and gone, her sense of crisis intensified.
She was like an ant on a hot pan, frantically pacing around, but couldn't think of a solution.
If even the people in charge of the emergency call are problematic, what can an ordinary citizen do?
Although there weren't many problematic police officers, she didn't know which ones were problematic and which ones weren't!
Her first thought was to ask Zheng Ying for help, but then she remembered that Zheng Ying was in Kyoto, and even she couldn't handle the problems there. How could she possibly manage things in Shenzhen? Besides, there were police officers involved.
Tian Guoqiang!
Deng Xiuzhen suddenly remembered Tian Guoqiang, whom she hadn't contacted since going to Kyoto. Given Tian Guoqiang's abilities, he should be getting a promotion.
But most likely they'll be in Posseong, and if they rise faster, they'll be in Seoul.
He certainly can't control what's going on here, but we can ask around; maybe he knows someone here who is trustworthy.
