Chapter 259 He's here?
Chapter 259 He's here?
Chu Ruohan looked at the delicate chestnut cake in front of her and sighed softly.
Ever since that day I casually mentioned that I loved chestnut cake the most, there has been a plate of it at every single meal in this courtyard.
Unfortunately, she didn't want to eat anything right now, her mind was only worried about the safety of her parents in the capital.
Gu Chengyan imprisoned her in this secluded courtyard and had no intention of letting her out.
He was like a beast tamer, trying to wear down her temper little by little and tame her!
"Madam, it's time to change the dressing." The maid whispered as she entered, breaking the silence in the room.
Chu Ruohan snapped out of her reverie and softly hummed in agreement.
The maid squatted down, gently took off Chu Ruohan's shoes and socks, and evenly applied the ointment to Chu Ruohan's ankles.
Chu Ruohan watched her movements thoughtfully.
As the maid finished packing and was about to leave, Chu Ruohan called out to her.
"I'm so bored here, I have nothing to do all day, and I'm feeling really down. Could you find me some needle and thread? I'd like to embroider a handkerchief to pass the time." Chu Ruohan's tone was filled with anticipation.
The maid paused for a moment, then nodded and replied, "Madam, I'll go get it right away."
A moment later, the maidservant hurried back, carrying a sewing box. The box contained all the necessary needles and threads, as well as several strands of brightly colored silk thread.
"Thank you." Chu Ruohan took it, her fingertips gently caressing the soft silk thread.
Gu Chengyan pushed open the door and entered, just in time to see this scene. He sneered, "He's here."
A look of joy appeared on Chu Ruohan's face.
"My older brother is really outstanding. In the end, it's all because he has a good mother." Gu Chengyan's tone was sarcastic, with a hint of barely perceptible jealousy.
Chu Ruohan looked up at him, her eyes clear and bright, "Gu Chengyan, are you still going to make a last-ditch effort?"
Gu Chengyan chuckled at the certainty in her eyes and retorted, "Are you so sure I'll lose?"
Chu Ruohan did not answer, but the expression on her face said it all.
Gu Chengyan's face darkened, and he roughly pulled Chu Ruohan's arm.
"Then come with me to take a look!"
Chu Ruohan stood up with his help, and the embroidery needle hidden in her sleeve flashed a cold light in the sunlight.
Gu Chengyan led Chu Ruohan to a high place where she could overlook the entire layout of the manor.
"See that? Over there, and over there, those are all my men."
Gu Chengyan pointed to several seemingly ordinary courtyards, a hint of smugness in his voice, "Do you think Gu Junze can get away unscathed?"
Chu Ruohan's gaze swept over those areas, and her heart sank slightly.
She knew that Gu Chengyan was telling the truth; the defenses here were indeed very tight.
However, she still believed in Gu Junze.
“He can,” she said softly, her voice low but exceptionally firm.
Gu Chengyan sneered, "You seem to have complete faith in him."
Seeing her silence, Gu Chengyan smiled mockingly: "What, not going to say anything? Finally understand that Gu Junze is bound to lose this time?"
"You're dreaming." Chu Ruohan glanced at him sideways, making no attempt to hide the disgust in her eyes. "Gu Chengyan, you are truly repulsive."
Gu Chengyan's smile froze on his face, and anger surged in his chest, but when he looked into Chu Ruohan's eyes, which were shining with a firm light, a sense of powerlessness welled up in his heart.
"I'm disgusting?" Gu Chengyan shook his head with a sneer. "Then Gu Junze is noble? He's just lucky. If I had regained my memories of my past life sooner, what would have become of him?"
Upon hearing this, Chu Ruohan suddenly laughed: "Gu Junze has been paralyzed for many years. You think he's lucky? Why don't you try it yourself and experience that feeling of helplessness?"
“If it weren’t for Gu Junze, I would rather marry Gu Cheng’an,” she stared sharply at Gu Chengyan, “than choose you.”
Gu Chengyan's expression changed drastically, and he grabbed Chu Ruohan's wrist: "Does that piece of trash Gu Chengan even deserve it?"
Chu Ruohan winced in pain, but did not back down: "I am still a hundred times better than you, you cold-blooded animal."
Just then, a guard rushed over and whispered a few words in Gu Chengyan's ear.
A hint of excitement flashed in Gu Chengyan's eyes, followed by a cold laugh: "It seems your Gu Junze has really arrived."
Chu Ruohan's eyes lit up, and her heart began to race involuntarily.
Gu Junze has found this place!
“Keep a close eye on Madam,” Gu Chengyan ordered. “I’m going to meet my good elder brother in person.”
Two guards stepped forward, one on each side, and forcibly took Chu Ruohan back to her room.
Chu Ruohan struggled, but her wrists were gripped painfully, and she knew that brute force was futile at this point.
After being taken back to the room, the guards slammed the door shut, and Chu Ruohan heard the sound of it being locked.
"Junze..." she whispered, her fingers unconsciously tightening around the embroidery needle in her sleeve.
On the mountain path, Gu Junze led several shadow guards forward cautiously. They had discovered that a large number of guards were lying in ambush around the manor, and they had to proceed with extreme caution.
"Your Highness, there are two guards fifty paces ahead," Shadow Three reported in a low voice.
Gu Junze nodded, his eyes sharp: "Avoid them."
Using the trees as cover, the group moved slowly forward. The mountain wind rustled the leaves, providing them with natural cover.
“Young Master, look!” Ying Qi suddenly pointed to a secluded courtyard in the distance. “It’s brightly lit there; that’s probably where the young mistress is being held.”
Gu Junze looked in the direction he was pointing, and a thought struck him. That villa was indeed different from others, heavily guarded, clearly a place under close surveillance.
"Split up," Gu Junze ordered in a low voice. "Shadow Three, take some men to draw the guards' attention. I'll go rescue them."
"Yes!" the shadow guards responded in unison, and then dispersed.
Gu Junze made his way to the villa alone.
Years of living in a wheelchair have given him upper body strength far exceeding that of ordinary people, making climbing and vaulting effortless for him.
He approached his target silently, like a leopard stalking the night.
However, just as he was about to climb over the courtyard wall, several guards suddenly rushed out from the shadows and surrounded him.
"Heh, long time no see, big brother." Gu Chengyan slowly emerged from the darkness, a victor's smile on his face.
Gu Junze looked at him coldly, his eyes filled with undisguised killing intent: "So you really are here. Release Han'er."
"So eager to see her?" Gu Chengyan chuckled. "Don't rush, I'll take you to see her right away. But..."
His tone suddenly turned cold, "Whether you meet me alive or as a corpse depends on your performance."
The guards stepped forward, brandishing sharp blades, and surrounded Gu Junze.
Gu Junze's hand was already on the hilt of his sword, ready to draw it and fight at any moment.
"You think you can beat me?" Gu Junze sneered. "Gu Chengyan, you will never win."
