Chapter 364: Heroes and then set off again
Deep in the dense forest, a chilling wind rustled the leaves, like the whispers of countless dead souls. Youcai and I walked side by side, followed by the Earth Alliance's most elite warriors, each with a look of determination on their faces.
"Be careful, Mengmeng." Youcai warned in a low voice, scanning the surroundings with sharp eyes, "Those guys are very cunning, they may be lying in ambush here."
I nodded, tightening my grip on the sword. Since the end of that great battle, we've been relentlessly pursuing the remaining enemies. They're like rats in a gutter, hiding everywhere, waiting for an opportunity to strike back.
"General! We've spotted the enemy ahead!" The scout rushed back and knelt on one knee to report.
"How many people?" Youcai dismounted.
"General, there are about a hundred of them, but they are all equipped with strange weapons!"
"Strange weapon?" My heart tightened. Could it be that they have a backup plan?
"All troops, stand alert!" Youcai decisively ordered, "Prepare for battle!"
The cries of killing shook the earth, and the once silent forest instantly turned into a battlefield. Although the enemy was small in number, their "strange weapons" were incredibly powerful, and the beams of light they fired were enough to cut towering trees in half.
"Everyone be careful!" I warned loudly, swung the sword in my hand into a curtain of light, blocking the incoming beams one by one.
"Mengmeng, cover me!" Youcai shouted, and rushed out like a ghost. The spear in his hand was like a sea dragon, and wherever he went, the enemies fell one after another.
The battle was incredibly brutal, and although we ultimately emerged victorious, it came at a significant cost. Looking at the corpses strewn across the ground, I felt a mixture of emotions. Is this the cruelty of war?
"It's finally over..." Youcai walked to my side and sighed tiredly.
"Yes, it's over." I looked at the sky, and the long-lost sunlight penetrated through the layers of branches and leaves and fell down.
The news spread back to the human city, and the world rejoiced. My name and Youcai's were engraved on the hero monument, and we were admired by thousands of people.
"Mengmeng, look." At the celebration banquet, Youcai handed me a glass of wine, "We succeeded."
I took the glass, but didn't drink. Instead, I looked out the window at the celebrating crowd and whispered, "This is just the beginning. The future of the Earth..."
Brilliant fireworks burst into the night sky, illuminating the joyful faces of the crowds. Cheers and music mingled, creating a vibrant atmosphere at the celebration banquet. Yet, I felt dazed, as if I were in a dream.
"What's wrong? Are you still thinking about those guys?" Youcai followed my gaze to the window and asked softly.
I shook my head and downed the wine in my glass, a bitter taste spreading across my tongue. "I just feel like everything we've done isn't enough."
Youcai was slightly stunned, then put down his glass and turned serious. "You mean, the future of the Earth?"
"Yes." I put down my glass, my eyes determined. "Those unknown enemies have been eliminated, but no one can guarantee that new threats won't arise in the future. Moreover, this war has taught us that only by uniting as one can humanity meet all challenges."
Youcai nodded in agreement. "You're right. Peace is hard-won. We can't let our guard down." He pondered for a moment, then continued, "I have an idea. Perhaps we can give it a try."
A few days later, a document titled "Earth United Organization Proposal" was delivered to the leaders of every nation on Earth. The proposal detailed the necessity of establishing a united organization, as well as its purpose and objectives: to maintain peace and stability on Earth, promote exchanges and cooperation among nations, and jointly respond to various threats from within and beyond the Earth.
The initiative, once published, sparked a furor. Some supported it, believing it reflected the progress of human civilization; others opposed it, fearing it would undermine national sovereignty. For a time, a chorus of voices swirled, the debate raged.
Youcai and I were not intimidated by the difficulties we faced. We traveled extensively, lobbying leaders of various countries and explaining to them the significance and necessity of establishing a joint organization. We knew that this road would not be easy, but for the future of the planet, we had to persevere.
Finally, after countless negotiations and consultations, the United Earth Organization was established. The news sent the entire world into a frenzy. People took to the streets, cheering and celebrating this historic moment.
"We succeeded, Mengmeng." Standing in the crowded square, Youcai excitedly held my hand, tears glistening in his eyes.
I looked at the jubilant crowd, my heart filled with hope. But this was just the beginning; there was still a long way to go. I turned to Youcai and said firmly, "Are you ready? Our mission has just begun..."
After the joint organization was established, Youcai and I naturally became core members. He advocated for the development of science and technology and the strengthening of defense capabilities, while I was committed to promoting cultural exchange and eliminating racial barriers. We supported each other and contributed to this hard-earned peace.
Faced with a common threat and goal, nations once at loggerheads unexpectedly demonstrated a remarkable capacity for collaboration. Through resource sharing and technological exchange, scientific and technological progress has advanced by leaps and bounds in just a few years. Once devastated land has been reforested, and futuristic cities have sprung up. It feels as if the Earth has been reborn.
Youcai and I were finally able to step away from our busy lives and enjoy a moment of peace. Hand in hand, we strolled through the bustling streets, watching children playing and chasing each other, listening to people chatting about their daily lives, and our hearts were filled with peace.
"Do you remember the first time we met? You were like a frightened little rabbit." Youcai suddenly stopped, turned to look at me, with a gentle smile on his lips.
I was amused by his sudden recollection and gently hit his shoulder. "Who was it that kept yelling in my ear to protect me back then? And what happened in the end? You still had to rely on me, a 'little rabbit', to protect you."
He grabbed my hand and pulled me into his arms, his low voice filled with a hint of doting: "Okay, okay, it's my fault, it's my fault. What should I do without you?"
I snuggled in his arms, feeling his warmth and heartbeat, my heart filled with happiness and satisfaction. Yes, if it weren't for him, I might have already lost myself in the vortex of power and responsibility.
One day, many years later, Youcai and I stood side by side atop the tallest building on Earth, overlooking this azure planet. The afterglow of the setting sun shone on us, making our figures appear exceptionally slender.
"We succeeded, we are talented." I said softly, my tone full of emotion.
"Yes, we succeeded." Youcai held my hand tightly, "But..."
He suddenly paused, his gaze fixed on the distant starry sky. His deep eyes seemed to hold endless secrets. I followed his gaze, a strange unease rising within me… "But what?" I turned to look at him. The setting sun gilded his handsome face, but it couldn't conceal the unwavering solemnity between his brows.
"I was just thinking," he retracted his gaze, his deep eyes reflecting my figure, "peace is only temporary, and the prosperity we see today is only based on the resolution of the crisis. The universe is vast, and no one knows what the future will bring."
His words were like a bucket of cold water, extinguishing the joy that had just ignited in my heart. Yes, we have defeated the enemy and rebuilt our homeland, but this does not mean that all is safe. Earth's resources are limited, and technological development takes time. More importantly, human hearts are unpredictable. Who can guarantee that past tragedies will not happen again?
A breeze blew by, bringing the noisy sounds of the city in the distance. I closed my eyes and tried hard to ignore the uneasiness in my heart.
"You're right, we still have a lot to do." I opened my eyes and looked into the distance with a determined gaze. "Earth is our only home. We must protect it and prepare for the future."
"Yes," he said, holding my hand tightly, interlocking our fingers, conveying a firm strength, "We will find a way."
We stood there side by side, watching the sun slowly set and night gradually fall. The city lights came on one by one, like twinkling stars in the night sky, illuminating the land we fought for.
Suddenly, my communicator rang. It was the old monk's voice: "Your Majesty, the meteorologist has an emergency to report."
My heart skipped a beat, and an ominous feeling came over me. "Pick it up."
The meteorologist's panicked voice echoed with the crackling sound of electricity, "Your Majesty... This is bad... Abnormal weather is occurring everywhere... Food..."
Before he could finish his words, he was interrupted by a shrill alarm. I suddenly opened my eyes and looked at Youcai beside me, only to see that he was also looking at me with a serious expression.
"It seems that a new challenge has arrived..." He whispered, with an indescribable heaviness in his tone.
I took a deep breath and tightened my grip on the communicator. "Notify everyone and call an emergency meeting!"
