Chapter 2357 - 2333: Moved to Tears

Gao Yang had a pretty solid grasp of the situation in Sanaa City. Abdullah would update him, but the primary source of information was the Black Demon, who had entered Sanaa City ahead of time.

The Yemeni Government only decided to announce the cancellation of fuel subsidies today. However, whether they would actually announce it was still uncertain. If the Yemeni Government sensed something off, they might abandon the subsidy cancellation plan altogether. Therefore, before the official announcement, the Houthis Armed Forces wouldn’t make any major moves, not even cautiously infiltrating the area.

Even if the Yemeni Government announced the subsidy cancellation, chaos would take some time to erupt. It’s unlikely that an announcement at 10 would immediately have masses on the streets by 11 causing trouble. It requires some time for genuinely furious civilians to cause real mayhem, at least until the next day or even longer. This is because in Sanaa and Yemen, not every household has TVs or computers, and even if they did, there’s often no electricity. So, it takes about two or three days for the news to spread widely enough.

Satan was going to be stuck in the mountains for a while. Usually, in such situations, Satan and his gang would just eat dry rations in the mountains. If there were logistics supplies, it would be more comfortable, with someone assigned to deliver meals.

Living off compressed biscuits continuously is unbearable. Even if food is delivered, it would be cooked, and then have to wait an hour or more before delivery, making the most delicious food taste bad by then.

However, things were different now because Satan had Liang Dong, the cook soldier.

After setting up camp, Gao Yang couldn’t wait to see what Liang Dong was up to. After all, having a cook soldier for the first time to provide food in an outdoor setting naturally piqued some curiosity.

Liang Dong brought enough supplies for two pickup trucks. One truck carried two large pots and two diesel stoves, while the other truck carried the food ingredients.

Li Jinfang and Cui Bo were helping Liang Dong. Cui Bo was slicing meat, and Li Jinfang and Liang Dong were setting up the pots.

After setting up the two stoves and placing the pots, Liang Dong clapped his hands and said with a smile, "It would be great to have a field kitchen truck. That would save a lot of hassle without needing to set up pots each time."

Li Jinfang laughed, "Be content. At least you don’t have to dig a smokeless stove."

"A field kitchen truck, right? I can get that for you!"

Upon hearing Gao Yang, both looked up, and Li Jinfang smiled, "Brother Yang, why are you here? Is everything settled?"

"Settled."

Without thinking, Gao Yang rubbed his hands eagerly, "First time trying the squad leader’s cooking outdoors. Well, squad leader, what are you planning to cook?"

Liang Dong grinned, "There are too many people, so cooking is tricky. We’ll just have a dish of stewed lamb."

Gao Yang waved his hand, smiling, "You mentioned wanting a field kitchen truck. I can get that for you. Do you need it?"

Liang Dong looked at the crowd around and shook his head, "Cooking for over 200 people, the kitchen truck would be handy. But for just us fifteen people, although it’s useful, it’s unnecessary. We would normally use one kitchen truck for a company with a whole kitchen squad. If it’s just me with a kitchen truck, it would be a burden."

"Forget it, we won’t be here long. No need to bother with finding a kitchen truck."

After speaking, Gao Yang patted Liang Dong’s shoulder and said softly, "Squad leader, I’m telling you, your cooking skills are crucial. I promised these guys the best treatment, and that’s through your meals. Cooking for over 200 people is hard work for you, but it’s just for two or three days at most."

Cui Bo looked up discontentedly and said loudly, "Am I not a person? I’m cooking too, okay?"

Gao Yang cleared his throat twice, laughed, "I’m counting on you guys. Thanks, thanks."

With the pot set up and water boiling, Liang Dong tossed the sliced lamb into the big pot to start cooking. He looked somewhat worriedly at Gao Yang, "Boss, I’m making a simple lamb stew. This lamb here is excellent, tender, and only slightly gamey. But here, they mostly grill. I wonder if they’ll like this stew."

Gao Yang waved his hand, "No problem. Do it your way."

Liang Dong, focusing on cooking, no longer spoke to Gao Yang.

Both large pots were used for lamb stew. As for the main dish, it had to be flatbreads, the Yemenis’ staple. These also serve as rations because they spoil very slowly. Although they harden soon after being made, it’s better than having nothing to eat.

About an hour later, a rich aroma wafted through the temporary camp. The idle members of Satan, drawn by the smell, gathered around the stoves, standing or sitting and waiting for the meal. It was quite a sight.

Finally, Liang Dong lifted the pot’s lid and started adding salt, stirring with a big ladle, and then loudly said, "Dinner’s ready!"

Handing Gao Yang a full mess tin, Liang Dong, a bit nervous, wiped his hands and said, "Boss, have a taste."

The meat was hot.

With sizzles and hahs, Gao Yang ate the meat, then stopped moving and talking, making Liang Dong even more nervous, so he quietly asked, "Boss, how is it?"

At this point, Salim had also eaten. He was a bit resistant to lamb stew, as stewed dishes were rare in Yemen.

Next was Glolov, and after tasting, Gao Yang was surprised to see Glolov shedding tears.

Glolov was actually tearing up.

Holding a mess tin in one hand and a fork with a piece of meat in the other, Glolov gazed at the meat, tears flowing, and said sorrowfully, "I’ve been a soldier half my life... and this is the first time I’ve eaten something in the wilderness, in a place where there’s nothing, that you can’t even get in fancy restaurants. After speaking, Glolov shoved the meat into his mouth, chewing and saying to Liang Dong, "Squad leader! I love you! Really, I love you so, so, so much right now!"

Liang Dong laughed and said to Glolov, "Don’t, I’m not into that!"
