Chapter 39 The God of War During Garbage Time
Chapter 39 The God of War During Garbage Time
Looking at Thabeet's bewildered expression, Jia Fei felt sorry for him. Thabeet was a player from UConn, UConn's highest-drafted player in the NBA draft. Who would have thought that such a seemingly talented high-draft pick would fail to live up to expectations?
Jia Fei could only feel sorry for himself. He was in dire straits, barely able to save himself. How could he possibly help his senior?
The on-site commentary team consisted of Reggie Miller and Steve Kerr from TNT.
Reggie Miller said, "Hashem Thabeet really needs to learn some low-post footwork from Hakeem Olajuwon."
Steve Kerr laughed, his face so wrinkled it could trap a large fly: "Maybe he's not suited for this."
Reggie dribbled the ball across half-court. He wouldn't have had a chance to become the team's primary ball-handler during regulation time, so he finally had the opportunity to indulge in that role during garbage time.
White Aldridge came out to set a screen, and Reggie used the screen to jump shot—but he missed!
Thabeet grabbed the rebound and tried to pass the ball ahead to Parsons, who was making a fast break, but his junior, Jia Fei, intercepted the ball!
Jia Fei stole the ball and launched a counterattack, passing it to veteran Collison under the basket.
Collison easily scored 2 points with a layup!
86-100, the Thunder are the first to reach 100 points!
The fans at the Ford Center gave him a round of applause... Collison isn't actually that old, but he's the oldest player on the team and is practically a legend. Fans adore this man who is so loyal to the team.
Reggie Miller shook his head and said, "Hashem's pass was too long; he should have passed the ball to the point guard across half-court."
Steve Kerr agreed with him: "He was too presumptuous and didn't take into account that his passing technique wasn't very good."
The Rockets are on offense, and Gao Fushuai has the ball on the right wing facing Jia Fei.
"Come on, Chandler, come and beat me up!" Jia Fei said with an innocent look on his face.
After threatening Jia Fei three times and seeing that Jia Fei didn't move, Gao Fushuai pulled up for a jump shot!
Unexpectedly, Jia Fei reacted very quickly. If he hadn't leaned back, the ball would have been blocked!
He threw the ball and it went completely out of bounds...
A burst of silvery laughter erupted from the home fans on the sidelines. If Jia Fei had seen her now, he would have recognized her immediately. She was the girl who had taken a photo with him at the supermarket.
Thunder offense, Reggie Jackson drives and passes to Aldridge under the basket!
The Rockets have enough height under the basket; he can't beat Thabeet one-on-one.
After Aldridge lost possession, he passed the ball to Jia Fei in the bottom corner!
Jia Fei receives the ball at the high-ranking, rich, and handsome spot, and scores a 3-pointer—Bang!
It's a direct shot! 86-103, the Thunder lead by 17 points!
The Ford Center, which had been somewhat quiet, became lively again. Unexpectedly, the team's Asian rookie played so well and had a strong presence on the court.
Reggie Miller said, "This rookie named Jia Fei played very calmly. He didn't rush to shoot, but waited for the right opportunity before shooting, and he shot decisively."
Steve Kerr nodded: "His shooting form is very standard, his shooting fundamentals are good, he must practice a lot."
These two commentators are considered sharpshooters in NBA history. To gain their approval shows that Jia Fei's usual shooting practice has paid off.
"Good pass, Cole!" Jia Fei and Aldridge high-fived.
The Rockets are on offense. Courtney Lee drives to the basket for a layup but misses!
The handsome and rich guy grabbed the offensive rebound and went up for a strong shot, but Jia Fei jumped high and blocked the shot!
Morris got the ball, but Jia Fei swatted it away again!
Reggie gets the ball and launches a counter-attack!
Jia Fei started from his own penalty area, as if he had activated nitro boost, and directly overtook everyone, rushing to the front!
The scene became chaotic...
Reggie grinned and tossed the ball onto the backboard—
"Wow—" The fans in the stadium let out a collective sigh!
Jia Fei timed his steps perfectly, jumped on one foot, leaped high into the air, caught the rebounding ball, and slammed it into the basket!
The rim was shaking violently, a testament to the force of the impact!
At 86:105, the point difference has reached 19 points!
The Rockets called a timeout. The rim protector couldn't stand it anymore. Even in garbage time, even knowing they were going to lose, couldn't they at least be a little more dignified? We still have games to play; we can't let our morale be completely destroyed!
The cheers filled the entire Ford Center arena, and this play brought the atmosphere of the game to a new climax.
Jia Fei smiled and gave Reggie a high-five. This was the first time the two had connected during the regular season, and they were surprised by their excellent teamwork. It was a real benefit of playing together regularly.
Westbrook, standing on the sidelines, excitedly waved his towel and even gave Jia Fei a chest bump in celebration. After the bump, Jia Fei felt a slight pain in his chest. Westbrook's physique was truly amazing; he was practically a tank at position 1!
Reggie Miller said, "OKC's number 3 rookie, Jia Fei, is amazing. His athleticism is outstanding. It's really hard to believe that such a player is only a second-round pick, especially since this year is considered a weak rookie year."
Steve Kerr said, "This year is definitely a weak year for rookies, but you never know. Maybe in a few years, even more of these rookies will emerge as stars."
The timeout is over and the game continues.
Perhaps the Rockets were intimidated by the opponent's morale, as the head coach's timeout had little effect.
Sure enough, Morris's mid-range jump shot was wildly off target, failing to even hit the rim.
Lazar Hayward grabbed the rebound and passed it to Reggie Jackson to advance the ball.
PS: Lazar Hayward: "If I don't produce some stats, you'll all think I'm just a tool, right? Forget I was on the court too, huh?"
Reggie set a high screen and passed to Nick Collison, who took a mid-range shot—it went around in circles and came out!
But... an unidentified flying object appeared. Jia Fei caught the ball in mid-air with one hand and slammed it into the basket!
Wow—oh my god!
After Jia Fei came down, his senior, Tabbit, looked at him with an incredulous expression.
Jia Fei pouted and said, "Senior, you've lost weight..." Then he turned around and went back to defend, leaving Thabeet looking completely bewildered.
On the sidelines, Rockets head coach Jerry Kennedy looked at his team's second and sixth overall picks, and then at the other team's second-round picks, and he really didn't know what to say. If he were twenty years younger, he'd be playing much earlier. Kawhi Leonard and Steve Nash, in Kennedy's eyes, they're all just little brothers!
86:107, the score difference has reached 21 points!
The Thunder fans in the arena were certainly entertained. They initially thought it was a pity that the game was decided too early, but now it seems there's no regret. Jia Fei's outstanding performance made up for the fact that the game was lost.
