Chapter 530 Still No Clue
Chapter 530 Still No Clue
Suddenly, the gate was pushed open and a vague figure walked in. The other party was obviously very cautious, taking every step lightly and scanning the yard.
"Who?" Su Ming asked coldly, his voice coming from the shadows with a hint of oppression.
The man was visibly taken aback, then stopped in his tracks. He didn't answer, but stood there, seemingly weighing how to respond.
Su Ming didn't give him time to think. He suddenly rushed out from the shadows, dagger pointed directly at the opponent's vitals. The man reacted quickly, taking a step back and raising his hand to block Su Ming's attack.
The two men exchanged blows instantly, the dagger clashing against metal with a resounding sound. Su Ming's movements were sharp and decisive, each one targeting his opponent's weaknesses. However, his opponent's skills were equally remarkable, and several dangerous evasions left Su Ming secretly alarmed.
"Who are you? Why are you following me?" Su Ming asked in a low voice while attacking, trying to get more information from the other party's reaction.
The other party did not answer, but silently resisted Su Ming's attack. Although his movements were not as fierce as Su Ming's, they were extremely steady, and every step was full of defensive meaning.
"This isn't an ordinary person," Su Ming thought to himself. His brow furrowed slightly, realizing the other party might have a backup plan.
At this moment, a sharp whistle suddenly sounded in the distance. The man seemed to have received some kind of signal, paused, then quickly retreated, turned around and disappeared into the night.
Su Ming didn't chase after him. He stood there, staring at the direction the man had disappeared in. He still held the dagger tightly in his hand, his palm soaked with sweat.
"Who are they? Why are they following me?" Su Ming asked himself. He knew this was no accident, and the other party's retreat meant that this confrontation was only the beginning.
After returning to the warehouse, Su Ming lit the oil lamp on the table. The faint light dispelled some of the shadows, but he still felt heavy inside. His experience that night had made him realize that he had become the target of certain people, and he had no idea who these people were or what their intentions were.
He sat down at the table, his fingers tapping unconsciously, his eyes fixed on his notebook, which he didn't open for a long time. His thoughts were in disarray, and his mind kept replaying the shadow's movements and the whistle as it departed. The whistle was like a signal of some kind, simple but with a clear command, which gave Su Ming a sense of unease.
"I can't handle everything alone," Su Ming said to himself. He knew the situation was beyond his capabilities and needed help. After a moment's thought, he picked up a piece of paper and quickly wrote a few lines in pencil. He then folded the paper and tucked it into his coat pocket.
He walked to the window, opened it a little, and observed the street outside. The night was still dark, and the wind swayed the shadows of the trees, but there was no suspicious movement. After confirming that it was safe, he quickly locked the warehouse door and walked along the street in a familiar direction.
About half an hour later, Su Ming knocked on an unassuming wooden door. There were soft footsteps behind the door, followed by a deep voice asking, "Who's there?"
"It's me, Su Ming." He answered in a low voice, with a hint of urgency in his tone.
The door opened a crack, and a middle-aged man poked his head out, sizing up Su Ming with a wary gaze. Seeing it was him, he relaxed a little and opened the door completely.
"What's going on so late?" the man asked. He was wearing a dark coat and his face looked a little tired, but his eyes were still sharp.
"I need your help," Su Ming said softly as he walked into the room and closed the door. He glanced around the room, confirming that no one else was there before continuing, "Someone's following me. I need you to help me find out where they are."
The man frowned slightly, clearly surprised by Su Ming's request. "Following you? When did it happen?"
"Last night." Su Ming briefly recounted the events of the previous night, including the shadow's movements and the final whistle. He described them in great detail, even down to the frequency of the other party's footsteps.
After listening to this, the man was silent for a moment before he slowly spoke: "Are you sure that the other party is targeting you and not just passing by?"
"I'm sure." Su Ming's tone was firm. "Their movements were too professional. They didn't seem like those of ordinary people."
The man nodded, his expression growing serious. He picked up a cigarette from the table, lit it, and took a deep drag before saying, "Okay, I'll help you check. But it might take some time, so be prepared."
"Time is not a problem," Su Ming said, "but I need to find out their intentions as soon as possible, otherwise the next action will be very dangerous."
The man nodded in understanding, then pulled out a map from a drawer and spread it on the table. He pointed to a few marks on the map and asked, "Where did you find them last night?"
Su Ming walked to the table and pointed to a secluded alley on the map. He said, "Here. Their footsteps came from this alley, and then at this location—" He pointed to an abandoned courtyard, "they appeared."
The man stared at the map for a moment, then said thoughtfully, "That area has certainly been a bit unsettled lately. I heard there have been a few groups of strangers active there. It might be related to them."
"Do you know their background?" Su Ming asked.
The man shook his head. "It's not clear yet, but I'll ask someone to find out. Go back and rest first. Stay alert. I'll let you know as soon as I have any news."
Su Ming nodded and left the man's residence. He walked cautiously, keeping a constant eye on his surroundings. While his colleagues' help gave him some peace of mind, he knew this was only the beginning, and the real danger was far from over.
After returning to the warehouse, Su Ming didn't rest immediately. Instead, he tried to connect the numbers from last night with the appearance of his stalker. He wrote and drew in his notebook, trying to find the connection between the two, but he couldn't find a clue.
"Could these numbers be some kind of coordinates?" he wondered, but quickly dismissed the idea. The arrangement of the numbers seemed more like a code than a geographic location.
Time ticked by, and the sky outside the window gradually brightened. Su Ming rubbed his tired eyes and closed his notebook. He decided to put aside these complicated thoughts for the time being and wait for news from his colleagues.
However, he was still filled with uneasiness. The whistle from last night seemed to still echo in his ears, and the figure of the dark shadow was deeply engraved in his memory.
Su Ming leaned back in his chair, staring at the oil lamp on the table. The flame flickered gently, casting a flickering shadow on his face.
