Chapter 543 Thank You So Much

Chapter 543 Thank You So Much

After walking for about ten minutes, they arrived at a seemingly ordinary intersection. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary; the shops and residential buildings lining the street appeared peaceful and tranquil. However, Su Ming's mood remained unrelieved. Li Shan paused, her gaze still roaming around, as if searching for some detail.

"Did you see that car?" Li Shan suddenly spoke, pointing to a black car parked on the street corner in the distance.

Su Ming took a look and was shocked - that car was the one he had noticed before.

"You think it's suspicious?" Su Ming asked, his tone a little uneasy.

Li Shan was silent for a while, her eyes still fixed on the car: "We can't be sure for the time being. But we have to be careful. In this situation, any detail may be very important." Her voice was low and calm, as if warning Su Ming not to take it lightly.

Su Ming paused on the street. He was standing at the entrance of a dimly lit alley, having just separated from Li Shan. Although her analysis had reassured him somewhat, the image of the mysterious black car still lingered in his mind like a lingering shadow. A chill wind blew past, and he hunched his shoulders, shoving his hands in his pockets, wondering if he should find a place to relax with a cup of hot tea to ease the tension.

Just as he was walking into a quieter street, a sharp cry echoed from nearby. The voice was sharp and rapid, carrying an uncontrollable sense of fear. Su Ming stopped abruptly and looked up in the direction of the sound.

"Help! Robbery!"

His heart sank. The voice sounded like a young woman's, trembling with despair. He quickly looked around and saw it was coming from the entrance of a small grocery store. Under the dim streetlight, a man was tugging at a woman's handbag. The woman struggled desperately, trying to hold on to her belongings.

Su Ming's first reaction was hesitation. Countless thoughts flashed through his mind: Should he intervene? Was this man armed? Was he capable of handling this situation? For a moment, he was filled with conflict and anxiety.

"This isn't your business, stay out of it." A voice whispered calmly and rationally in his head. But another voice quickly retorted, "You're just going to stand by and watch? What if she gets hurt?"

The brief inner struggle of a few seconds seemed to strain at every nerve in his body. His palms began to sweat, but his body unconsciously moved closer. His steps were light, trying not to attract the man's attention. He had to assess the situation and ensure he wouldn't easily expose himself to danger.

As he approached, the woman's cries became clearer. Her face flushed with struggle, her eyes filled with fear. The robber, on the other hand, became even more ferocious, cursing and increasing the force of his hands as he tried to forcibly pull the bag away.

Su Ming's eyes quickly scanned the man's figure. He was of medium build, wearing a worn coat and a gray scarf covering his face, revealing only a pair of cold eyes. What alarmed Su Ming most was the bulge in his right pocket, suggesting a weapon.

"What if he has a knife?" This thought caused Su Ming's heartbeat to accelerate. His fists clenched involuntarily, and his breathing became rapid. He knew he had to make a decision quickly.

"Hey!" Su Ming suddenly shouted, his voice deep and powerful, with a hint of intimidation. His voice was particularly abrupt in the quiet night, successfully attracting the man's attention.

The man paused, turned, and stared fiercely at Su Ming. He had clearly not expected anyone to intervene, and a hint of impatience and vigilance etched in his eyes. He let go of the bag and stood up straight, as if assessing whether Su Ming was worthy of his challenge.

"What do you want?" The man's voice was hoarse and provocative. His hands were still in his pockets, and he clearly wasn't going to give up easily.

Su Ming took a deep breath and forced himself to remain calm. He slowly raised his hands in a non-threatening gesture, but his tone became more resolute: "Let her go. Don't cause any trouble."

The woman took the opportunity to step back and hugged her bag tightly, her eyes filled with gratitude and fear. Her voice trembled: "Thank you, sir..."

The man sneered, his eyes flickering between Su Ming and the woman. He clearly didn't want to let go easily, but Su Ming's sudden intervention made him hesitate. His hand moved in his pocket, as if groping for something.

Su Ming's nerves tensed instantly. His gaze fixed on the man's hand, his mind racing over his next move. If the man actually pulled out a weapon, what would he do? Escape? Or fight to the death? Every possibility raced through his mind.

"I don't want to hurt you," Su Ming whispered, trying to persuade the other party to give up with words, "but if you insist on causing trouble, don't blame me for being rude."

The man remained silent, staring at Su Ming, a flicker of struggle in his eyes. Finally, he seemed to have made a decision. He jerked his hand from his pocket, and Su Ming's heart nearly stopped for a moment—but it wasn't a weapon, but a crumpled tissue.

The man cursed and glared at Su Ming fiercely, then turned and ran quickly into the night, disappearing at the end of the street.

Su Ming let out a long breath, his tense body finally relaxing slightly. He turned and looked at the woman. Her face was still pale, but her eyes were filled with gratitude.

"Thank you, thank you so much!" Her voice trembled and she held the bag tightly in both hands, as if it was her last resort.

"It's okay." Su Ming's voice was low, but there was a hint of fatigue in his tone. He nodded, trying to hide his inner nervousness.

"Do you want me to take you home?" he asked, glancing around to make sure there were no other suspicious people.

The woman hesitated for a moment, then shook her head. “No, my home is nearby. I’ll be careful.”

Su Ming nodded and watched her walk away quickly. He didn't turn around until her figure disappeared around the corner. He still hadn't completely calmed down. The scene just now made him feel a little scared.

"What if he really has a weapon?" Su Ming asked himself. He knew his actions were impulsive, but he couldn't just sit back and watch. Even so, he felt a deep sense of powerlessness.

Su Ming's steps grew heavier. The night wind bit him, piercing through his thin clothing and piercing his bones. Although the unexpected robbery was over, the uneasiness and tension in his heart never dissipated.
