Chapter 358 Conscience
Chapter 358 Conscience
After the soldiers went down to rest, Esrick, who had received the news they brought, of course could not return to the Crimson Sword.
He randomly summoned the captain of the guard he had personally chosen, the first person to jump off the Thunder Eagle, and instructed him:
"Go and select a team of your most trusted men and have them prepare for battle. Then select another team to take over and activate the defensive firepower of Blackwater Fortress."
"As you command!" The captain of the guards accepted the task and then asked, "Excuse me, who is the target?"
Esrick hesitated for a long time before gritting his teeth and saying:
"Those Eldar."
The captain of the guards was stunned, as were Jasmine and Nakhimov. Nakhimov subconsciously wanted to ask a question, but Jasmine pulled her into her arms and covered her mouth.
"As you command..." The captain of the guards did not ask any further questions about this order, but he immediately raised another question:
"But with those Eldar are our brothers."
At this point, it is no longer realistic to notify those soldiers. If a conflict really breaks out, human soldiers will inevitably die in human artillery fire.
"Then you should be selective when selecting people. Choose those with good marksmanship so that they won't hit our brothers," said Esrick.
However, he also knew that this request was too difficult, so he looked around to confirm that no one was paying attention to this side, and then lowered his voice and added:
"You must trust Commissar Morvi and his troops. Even without prior notice, they will know where to fire when we attack the Eldar... If any of them fail to understand the situation and attack us... they will be eliminated as well..."
The captain of the guard agreed and left to make arrangements.
Only then did Jasmine release her hand from covering Nakhimov's mouth.
"How could you do this?" Nakhimov asked bluntly, "Aren't those pointy-eared people our comrades?"
Of course, Nakhimov could see that it was inappropriate for her to ask this question now, but if she didn't ask it, she would not be herself. Even if her question would make her lose the position she had worked so hard to get, even if her question would put her in danger, she was unwilling to go against her own heart.
She would never do anything she didn't agree with.
But in response to the child's question, Esrick did not scold or be vague. He stretched out his hand and tapped the girl's head with five fingers.
"Kid, there are no eternal enemies or friends, only eternal interests. If we don't kill them, they will kill us. Welcome to this... cruel universe."
Nakhimov's little heart felt an unprecedented shock. She had seen and experienced too many things in that day. One second she was amazed at the vastness of the world, and the next second she was hit hard by this cruelty that was taken for granted.
Although the world she originally lived in was also full of cruelty and although lives disappeared quickly one after another, she simply thought that this was the natural law of that world.
She neither fears nor hates the laws of nature.
However, she found it difficult to accept the behavior of someone betraying his comrades after fighting side by side with them.
The girl shed silent tears, and Jasmine held her in her arms.
She suddenly wanted to go home.
"You've grown up."
After answering Jasmine's question, the Mechanical Sage behind Esrick, who had been silent since landing, suddenly spoke.
"fart!"
But this time, Esrick rudely retorted to this elder whom he had always respected:
"To follow your wishes is maturity, to go against your wishes is childishness. You can't tell me what kind of person I am or whether I've grown up just by a single sentence! I made this decision for one and only one reason, and that's because of the damn mess you guys made, which left me with only this one choice!"
The Mechanical Sage just listened quietly to the angry young man's questioning without saying a word.
After saying this, the young governor even punched the air to express his anger, and then sat back in the Thunderhawk without saying a word.
He didn't want to return to the Crimson Sword, he just wanted to be alone, quiet and alone until the time of slaughter came.
Jasmine and Nasimov also accompanied him silently outside the Thunder Eagle.
After waiting for an unknown amount of time, a signalman standing outside the hatch reported to him:
"Governor, the nuns have returned."
It's time to come.
Esrick struggled to stand up. His body seemed to weigh a thousand pounds, but the signalman's next words left him bewildered again:
"She also brought back a human and an Eldar."
Humans... Eldar...
If nothing unexpected happens, it will be Howard and May.
But...but...how could this happen?
Esrick suddenly felt a lot lighter. He jumped down from the nearly two-meter-high cabin, then grabbed the signalman by the collar and asked:
"Where are they now?!"
Esrik's overreaction startled the signalman, who stammered, "They... they have already joined forces with the Eldar..."
So Esrik threw the signalman aside and ran towards the direction of the Eldar troops. Jasmine and Nasimov looked at each other, and they saw confusion in each other's eyes, but they also followed the governor.
The Mechanical Sage, however, remained where he was, a strange light flowing through the electronic circuits in his body.
Esrick ran through the human encampment without any grace. His behavior attracted the curious gazes of the human soldiers passing by. After running for nearly ten minutes, Esrick finally arrived at the edge of the Eldar camp.
And he saw at a glance the tall figure wearing black armor and carrying a huge silver sword.
Next to this figure, two more figures appeared, one of whom was holding the energy source that the Mechanical Sage had always dreamed of.
"Your Excellency, Governor, this is a good move."
After seeing Esrick, and thinking that the order for the nun to be stabbed might have come from this man in front of him, Howard couldn't help but say something sarcastic.
But Esrick walked quickly towards him, hugged him, and hit him on the back with his fist as if he were a brother.
"Well done, you did a great job!"
Esrick said.
He didn't know what exactly happened, but judging from the fact that all three of them came back intact, something must have stopped the duel between the nun and the elves.
And the only one who had the ability to stop all this at that time was the human in front of him.
This human being can really make miracles happen.
Howard was a little overwhelmed when he was hugged by the man, because at first he thought the Governor was here to snatch the energy source from him.
However, after feeling the young man's sincerity, he freed one hand and tapped him on the back.
"It seems like it's not easy for you either."
Just a hug and Howard understood most of the things.
