Chapter 353 The Taste of Oranges
Chapter 353 The Taste of Oranges
Where have you been?
What excuse is she going to use?
Sweetie racked her brains, but couldn't come up with any inspiration.
"Sweetie? Why aren't you saying anything?" Gu Yinshen urged.
Sensing the serious atmosphere, Mengmeng got out of Xie Yumin's arms.
Sweetie gripped Ruolan's hand tightly, her nervousness causing her to scratch Ruolan's hand, leaving two marks.
The last grip hurt so much that Ruolan gasped, a sound that Gu Yinshen keenly noticed.
Taking a step forward, Gu Yinshen reached out and pulled Tian Tian's arm off Ruolan's arm.
As soon as she let go, Sweetie felt even more insecure.
"Mommy~" she called out pitifully.
Ruolan made a move to step forward to show concern, but Gu Yinshen grabbed her arm and wouldn't let go. "We haven't heard from you all afternoon, so as your parents, we should at least check on you."
"Yes, Sweetie, where did you go this afternoon?" Ruolan asked in agreement.
This has happened far too many times. We need to find the reason, otherwise it will be too late to regret it if something really happens in the future.
Xie Beiling watched as the couple scrutinized Tian Tian, then pulled Xie Yumin and Mengmeng to sit down on the sofa.
Mengmeng was thinking about Tiantian behind her and was about to turn her head to look when Xie Beiling stopped her. "Mengmeng, your Aunt Yumian has been talking about you every day before the New Year. She was thinking of coming to see you this weekend."
The words reached Mengmeng's ears, but she couldn't hear them; her mind was still on Tiantian.
Following Mengmeng's gaze, Xie Yumin's eyes fell on Tiantian, and she turned her head and waved to Xie Beiling.
This kid!
Xie Beiling muttered to himself, stood up from the sofa, and walked back between Tian Tian and Gu Yinshen.
"Is there something you can't say?" Xie Beiling asked. "Or are you deliberately not going home after school just to make your parents worry?"
Her little scheme was exposed, and Tian Tian instantly felt humiliated, her eyes filled with hatred.
Gu Yinshen gave her ample time to answer, but she remained standing there without saying a word for a long time. "Sweetie, are you planning to stay silent forever?"
"I..." Sweetie opened her mouth, but without a clear answer in her heart, she drew out her words and closed her mouth again.
“Yin Shen, you have such a good temper,” Xie Beiling said from the side. “She keeps sneaking out all the time; it can’t get into this habit.”
"If you don't talk today, don't go back to your room. Just stand here and reflect on your actions!" Gu Yinshen said, pulling Ruolan towards the sofa.
Seeing Gu Yinshen's gloomy face, Ruolan understood that he was teaching Tiantian a lesson, so she didn't say anything to contradict him.
Seeing Tian Tian's relieved expression, Xie Beiling shook his head helplessly: "Hopeless!"
If it weren't for the fact that his research institute had personally conducted the DNA test, he would have seriously doubted whether Tian Tian was really Gu Yinshen and Ruolan's child, given her sweet personality. Mengmeng, on the other hand, seemed more like it.
Seeing Ruolan's worried expression, Mengmeng moved from Xie Yumin's side to Ruolan's side.
"Mom~"
Upon hearing this, Ruolan reached out and stroked Mengmeng's outstretched hand.
"Mommy, have some fruit." Mengmeng took an orange from the fruit basket on the coffee table.
The orange was bigger than her hand, making it very difficult to peel. But Mengmeng insisted on peeling it for her, breaking it in half, handing one half to Ruolan, and the other half to Xie Yumin, whose eyes had been following her.
Looking at the freshly peeled orange in her hand, Xie Yumin's gloomy mood was instantly lifted.
She never expected that Mengmeng would peel half of it and hand it to her.
"Mommy, Aunt Yumian, have some oranges." Mengmeng reminded them when she saw that they had oranges but didn't seem to want to eat them.
She knew that when people are in a bad mood, eating something can make them feel better.
Ruolan looked at the half-eaten orange in Xie Yumin's hand, and the sourness in her heart was even more so than when she saw Mengmeng in her arms.
Does Mengmeng seem to like her a lot? Could it be that she feels uncomfortable staying in the Gu family and left with Xie Yumin?
Thinking of this, her heart skipped a beat, and she almost dropped the orange in her hand.
"Mother?"
"Ruolan?"
Mengmeng and Gu Yinshen called out together with concern.
Ruolan took the orange back into her hand, forcing a smile, "It's nothing."
"Are you feeling unwell?" Xie Beiling asked from the side.
As a doctor, he is better able than the average person to perceive a person's emotions and physical condition.
Ruolan is currently distracted and pale, clearly indicating that she has something weighing on her mind that has caused blood stasis.
Upon hearing Xie Beiling's words, Gu Yinshen immediately became anxious. "Ruolan, would you like to go back to your room to rest first?"
Ever since she went downstairs and found out that Tian Tian hadn't come back with them, she's been acting strangely. She's been holding on until now, and even though Tian Tian is back, she's still refusing to talk about it.
If things continue like this, she will be fine in time, but Ruolan will suffer some serious consequences.
Gu Yinshen glanced at Tian Tian, who was still standing there silently, his anger burning fiercely, yet he had nowhere to vent it.
"No need, I just lost my grip, it's fine." Ruolan put her hand on Gu Yinshen's arm and explained with a smile.
Xie Yumin ate a segment of orange, and the sweet aroma of the orange spread in her mouth. She said to Ruolan, "The orange that Mengmeng peeled is a hundred times tastier than ordinary oranges."
Hearing the praise, Mengmeng turned to Yumian and smiled, "Aunt Yumian, do you like oranges?"
"I like eating oranges that Mengmeng peels," Xie Yumin said with a smile, her body unconsciously leaning towards Mengmeng and rubbing against her with her shoulder.
The way the two of them were singing and dancing around Ruolan made Ruolan's worries even more serious.
She observed that Xie Yumin and Mengmeng's interactions resembled those of a normal mother and daughter.
"Mom, try it and see if it's good?" Mengmeng turned her head to see Ruolan still holding the orange tightly in her hand.
Does Mom not like oranges?
Seeing that Ruolan hadn't made a move, Mengmeng couldn't help but feel a little puzzled.
Her gaze fell on the orange, and she hesitated whether to reach out and take the half-orange, since it would be difficult to eat if she didn't like it.
Just as Mengmeng was about to reach out, Ruolan reacted, "I'll try it now."
She pried open a piece with her fingers, put it in her mouth, and felt a surge of bitterness in her heart.
This orange is clearly very sweet, but Ruolan can't taste any sweetness at all; instead, the bitterness is very strong.
Feeling something was off, Ruolan broke off another piece and put it in her mouth.
Ok?
Why is it still sour?
She thought to herself, then looked at Xie Yumin with suspicion.
Even though it's the same orange, why can she taste its sweetness? Is it really because she thinks it's an orange that Mengmeng peeled, so it tastes very sweet?
"What's wrong?" Gu Yinshen watched as Ruolan's brows furrowed and then relaxed.
