Chapter 691 - 662: The Era of Second Children (Part 1)

In January 2027, Sienna Thornton suddenly remembered their honeymoon in Japan the year they got married and longed for the guesthouse at the foot of Mount Fuji that witnessed their sweet newlywed days. After discussing with Simon Forrester, the two decided to take another week off after the Chinese New Year holiday to celebrate their wooden wedding anniversary in Yorai.

Sienna Thornton’s work at the Economic Committee was hectic, and with strict travel controls for public officials, she had to go through applying and asking Tobias Blackwood for help to get approval, which took a month before her superiors reluctantly allowed her a week-long trip abroad.

Everything was ready except for the final touch, but at the end of January, her condition took a turn for the worse, as she became sleepy all the time.

Even though she slept for eight hours every night, she could fall asleep during meetings in the day and doze off while working out with Simon Forrester on the third floor at night. Initially, she thought it was the onset of spring fatigue, but the condition didn’t improve even after half a month. A week before their trip to Japan, she still felt completely listless and devoid of energy.

Simon Forrester picked up on it and, one evening when she went to bed early due to drowsiness, asked, "Is your period late?"

"What day is it today?"

It was during the Spring Festival holiday. She was so drowsy that she could only remember it was the third day of the lunar New Year because she had just visited her family the day before and had no idea of the calendar date.

Simon Forrester sat at the bedside, gently tucking her stray hair behind her ear, and softly said, "February 8th."

She furrowed her eyebrows, murmuring, "Five days late. I had my period on the 3rd last month."

"Your cycle is usually on time, never more than three days early or late." Simon Forrester spoke gently, warmly placing his hand on her flat stomach, "Our girl might be on her way."

Sienna made a soft "hmm," sitting up slowly.

It was still lunar January, and the night was quite cold, even with the heater on. Simon Forrester considerately picked up the long robe beside him and draped it over his wife.

"I need to go test it," Sienna said, pulling back the quilt to get out of bed. "I can’t sleep until I’m sure."

"I’ll carry you to the bathroom," Simon Forrester murmured, wrapping her in the robe before lifting her in his arms.

He walked from the bed to the bathroom, occasionally glancing down at her and softly kissing her lips.

Inside the bathroom, he set her down on a chair and rummaged through the cabinet under the sink for a test strip.

After unwrapping the test strip and preparing a measuring cup, he carried her to the toilet.

"If it’s not pregnancy, that would be bad news. I feel completely drained of energy—perhaps I’m really ill?"

"You’re not," he reassured quietly while assisting her to collect urine, "Your last check-up showed you were in good health. It’s likely just pregnancy."

The thin test strip dipped into the cup, and liquid quickly filled the marked area.

Simon Forrester and Sienna Thornton watched intently as the liquid climbed upward, showing one line...

Two lines...

Simon Forrester’s lips curved into a smile: "You’re pregnant."

Sienna also breathed a sigh of relief: "Pregnant, thank goodness! I feared something serious."

Compared to their first pregnancy four years ago, the couple appeared much calmer this time.

Since preparing for a second child six months ago, Sienna Thornton was confident, believing the second child would come within the year, so while she felt content finding out about the second pregnancy, there wasn’t an overwhelming excitement.

Simon Forrester also seemed calm, but while carrying Sienna back to bed, she sensed his body trembling slightly.

She studied him, noticing his seemingly composed demeanor with a slight curl at the corner of his lips.

She chuckled softly and, lying down, nestled into his arms, asking gently, "The second one’s coming, are you happy?"

"I’m very happy," he replied, hugging her tightly and kissing her forehead, "Candy, thank you."

She laughed softly: "What are you thanking me for? This child will take my surname, ’Thorne.’"

"A child with your surname ’Thorne’ is still ours."

"That’s true..."

"Candy..."

"Hmm?"

"I love you."

"I love you too."

...

Due to Sienna Thornton’s pregnancy, and because the early pregnancy symptoms were quite pronounced, the trip to Japan was naturally canceled.

On the eighth day of the New Year, they had an appointment at Joyce Sutton’s clinic to draw blood for HCG and progesterone tests and an ultrasound to confirm an intrauterine pregnancy.

In the ultrasound room, cold gel poured onto Sienna Thornton’s belly, making her gasp.

The ultrasound probe moved over her abdomen, occasionally pressing down slightly.

Simon Forrester held her hand close by.

Joyce Sutton stood next to the ultrasound technician, eyes on the computer screen, making occasional comments.

"Dr. Sutton, take a look here." The ultrasound technician moved the probe on Sienna’s abdomen with one hand, pointing to the screen with the other.

Joyce Sutton adjusted her glasses, leaning closer to take a good look.

Sienna Thornton’s heart skipped a beat. She widened her eyes, trying to see the ultrasound screen clearly, but it was all black and white, and she couldn’t understand any of it.

She looked to Simon Forrester for help.

Simon Forrester quickly asked, "Dr. Sutton, is there a problem?"

Joyce Sutton kept her gaze on the screen and said, "There are two gestational sacs."

Sienna Thornton was overjoyed: "Does this mean twins?"

Joyce Sutton turned her head to look at her with a smile and said, "There’s an even chance of twins or a boy and girl pair."

"Oh my gosh!" Sienna exclaimed, "How incredible!"

She tugged on Simon Forrester’s hand, raising her face to him: "Honey, this time there are two babies!"

Simon Forrester was equally thrilled, bending down to kiss her forehead: "I’m so happy."

The ultrasound technician congratulated the couple, "Congratulations to both of you," and asked, "Do you have any other twins or boy-girl pairs in your family?"

Sienna Thornton shook her head: "We don’t have any." She then looked at Simon Forrester, "Do you?"

Simon Forrester also shook his head: "No."

The ultrasound technician said, "You’re really fortunate."

...

Simon Forrester and Sienna Thornton left the ultrasound room with Joyce Sutton and returned to the consultation room.

Joyce Sutton, reviewing Sienna’s blood test report on the computer, said, "Since it’s twins, hCG will rapidly increase after 50 days, and early pregnancy symptoms will be stronger than with the first pregnancy, Director Thorne, you should prepare yourself mentally."

Sienna suddenly recalled the three months of relentless nausea when she was pregnant with Victor four years ago, and her vision darkened.

Simon Forrester thought of it too, feeling for his wife, despite knowing he couldn’t do much, prompted him to ask Joyce whether any new remedies for easing morning sickness had been developed.

Joyce Sutton shook her head with a smile, "If it becomes unbearable and affects your daily life, medication or intravenous drips can be used to relieve sickness and replenish electrolytes. But if you can endure it, medical intervention is not recommended."

Sienna felt overwhelmed by her plight.

With the report and Joyce’s pregnancy management suggestions in hand, the couple left the hospital.

On the way home, Simon Forrester said, "Dr. Sutton mentioned that since the first birth was a Cesarean and now we’re expecting twins, we need to be cautious, manage your diet, and not let the babies grow too big, or it could become risky."
